So, I've seen a few other threads around for hair colors, and through a search, I didn't see there there has been one for Brunettes for at least a couple years... I didn't want to dig back too far and pull up a dinosaur, so I figured hey...why not start a new one?? :-)

This is for some brunette love! I sometimes get a little bored, or an itch to change up my hair, or the very very very strong desire to dye half of it snow white... but at the end of the day, I love my dark brown locks!

My hair is a pretty dark brown, but it has a reddish sheen in the sunlight. I'll start off the brunette love with some photos...

Me, last year. Pretty natural light from the window.

This was taken inside a vehicle. There seems to be some sort of red reflective glow, but I'm not sure what from...

I just love the beauty of hair (especially natural hair), and here's all about the love for brunette, natural or dyed!

Yay!!!

Your hair is beautiful!!

My color can be so weird. Sometimes it looks almost black:

And other times, well, this is pretty red:

Thanks! Yours is very pretty! Haha! I'd call it a brunette, though I have noticed that oftentimes brunettes will have quite a bit of red as well, in certain light. So... almost auburn! haha

I'm a brunette with natural red highlights. I've even found, on occassion, very coarse, copper colored hairs! They're completely different than the courseness and texture of my regular hair, very similar to the texture of grey hair. I've thought about going blonde or some other color but I'd never do it. Brunettes are just way better. :)

I'm a brunette but would have loved to have had red hair like my mom and her mother. Still, a glimmer of red is visible at times (in sunlight).

It seems like a lot of us have natural red highlights. I wonder if that's common for a lot of brunettes? I thought it was just particular to my family (even though there aren't any redheads). My younger brother has dark brown hair like I do but when he grows out a beard it's red!

I'm wondering the same thing! Both of my parents had very dark brown hair, yet ended up with some dirty blonde kids haha, a few light brown haired, and a few with dark brown hair. But yeah, all of us with dark brown hair seem to have a natural red sheen to it, even though I am not really sure where it comes from!

My hair is pretty close to black, but I've noticed on more than one occasion it having a reddish tint to it, especially while I'm swimming. My older sister has much lighter hair, although it is still brunette, and it often looks red in the water.

I am growing out my color right now, but my natural color is a mousy brown. This picture was taken in 2009 and is my natural color. It is also the longest my hair had ever been, up until now.
It is also straightened in this picture.

Here you can see the reddish tint a lot more as I'm outside in natural light.

I am growing out my brunette hair right now...it will be fun to see my actual natural color and see what kinds of high lights I have. I haven't seen my natural hair color for probably 8 yrs or more..eek! It's always been some sort of shade of red or brown, just never my natural color.

I do know from my bangs which are all my real color, that it definitely looks a bit red in the right light.

IrishLassie, I love that style you're wearing in your picture! :)

I'm a brunette, and I also have reddish tints to my hair... but that's mostly in the summer, probably because of the sun. Right now it's just plain dark brown. :p The last few inches of my hair are lighter than the rest (damage? my friend pointed it out to me last week, I hadn't even noticed), almost reddish.
This is probably what my color looks like most of the time. Dark brown, leaning towards black in poor lighting, or towards lighter brown in the sun.
http://i50.tinypic.com/33ttah3.jpg
I don't have any down pictures that show color differences (I guess it's more visible in real life), but this bun does (it was summer, my hair doesn't look like that all the time, at least not as far as I know). I'm not sure whether to say reddish or just light brown.

Yay for brunettes! :D My hair is dark brown. It has a red sheen in the sunlight. My mother had long black asian hair, so that's where I get my texture and color. Dad has really think curly light brown hair. I got his thickness. - It's cool to see lots of girls have red tints! When I was thirteen I dyed my hair red without bleaching first, and you couldn't tell unless the light hit it right. It was pretty awesome lol. Though these days I would never do such a thing, hehe.

what a lovely updo!!
may I ask for directions?

I am brunette to, my natural hair color is the same like yours.
I also had red envy for really long time, and eventually I dyed it to red. I try this for three times, once a year, but it was never red enough for me (because my natural color is very dark, and I don't want to bleach it. so it was just a wine red in the dark...). right now the most of my hair (like all the length above the chin) is some kind of red, but I will glad to join here when I will be brunette again...

I've got brown hair, but there's one streak that's a very gold color. It's a bit noticeable in my profile picture. And I've never dyed it, so I have no idea how it happened.

Also, I just love my color! I got a compliment when I was on a ski-lift in January, because the woman noticed my braid in the sun!

I just love the beauty of hair (especially natural hair), and here's all about the love for brunette, natural or dyed!

By the way, OP, you hair is very brown, I see none of the blonde that another poster mentions. It is actually one of my biggest pet peeves to have someone say your hair isn't brown, its dark blonde! I have heard it said to people and its just that, brown hair of any shade varies so much that it is unlikely to not have SOME lighter, darkish blonde bits, but overall, your hair can still be very very much brown, not blonde or even blondnette.

Ha, that's an idea. Purple hair rocks!
That could be why the hair on top is shinier though. :p

I also don't see any blond in the OP's hair, but hey, there's a fine line between dark blond and light brown, I guess.

Happy being a brownie! The last 8 inches or so are old dye and highlights, though. I can't wait until it's gone. I've wanted virgin hair for years.

I don't know how to put a pic in a post yet, but I have a siggy pic taken at the end of August.

To me the OP is probably about a medium brunette shade with golden lights- neither blonde nor close to it really.

I'm a brunette- mostly henndigo but growing out and trying to like my natural brown colour :)

Tea rinses that are said to darken hair colour or make it more vivid.
Rosemary and sage should darken hair.
Black tea give red highlight and also darken hair.
ACV gives red highlights.

That was what I was thinking, but wasn't sure; thanks for clarifying.
I like my natural color; are these effects temporary?
I'm using vinegar rinses, but have no idea what kind of vinegar it is. It's very dark brown, with an orange tint; I figure I'd need something pretty strong to alter my color anyway. The thing about brown hair is that it's hard to get dyes to show up without bleach. :p

Here's my natural color from a few months ago, just a week before I dyed it. I've been dying my hair a soft black every 6-12 months (as long as it takes to completely fade out or as sick as I get with my roots) for about 6 years.

I don't like my natural color.. I'm actually making a quite ugly scowl face under the circle because of how light my hair is.. which is why I circled it out haha.

I do wish my natural hair was darker... but I still love being a brunette!

This is such as good idea for a thread. I've had brown hair all my life (haven't dyed it and don't know if I will when grays start coming in). Although recently it has darkened to a chestnut brown color from the lighter (according to mom) brown it was when I was young. It's nice to have a place where all of us brunettes can come and hang out and you all have such gorgeous hair. The only pics of my hair that I have right now (the ones where my hair is photoed from the back are all taken indoors, but here's one of the pics of how my hair.

but i was born with like dark blonde hair or so and then it all started falling off and when they shaved me, it grew back brown. i dont know if the shampooing had some effect on the hair color, it was lighter especially like on 2/3 of the length but i always had some of those golden dark blondish hairs everywhere! but my hair seems to be getting darker O.O?? i have a tiny tint of red, which i assume is from the ACV, but the golden hairs remain! i wish they were growing together in larger sections so that it would look really cool!

i do have a chunk in the front where the hair just grows in really light and its like a band or lighter hair, looks cool when i straighten my hair (well wrapping now, not like that iron heat thingy)

I've always had medium golden brown. It lightens a level in the summer. My avatar is pretty accurate at the moment.

It's temporary and most of them just gives more shine, they doesn't really change colour, it's more like cassia but even more temporary, and probably without any strengthening.

I'm not a real brunette. But lately I was fed up with red henna color. I want to go back to my natural color. I'm actually a blondette. So I searched for a hair dye which is friendly for the hair and skin and found La Riche Directions has a dark brown hair dye. La Riche Directions is a bit like Manic Panic...
This my result using this hair dye over henna red.

I think I belong here. I have redish ends, but I assume they are the leftover of highlights I did like 4 years ago. After I got tired of them, I started darkening my hair and went from dark blond to soft black little by little (last soft black applied 2 years ago)
Now I have pretty much my virgin color all over.
You can see the redish ends in the picture below:

I'm a brunette, but I have quite a bit of red in my hair now that I haven't colored in ages. I really like all the different shades that show up in natural hair. There are pics of the brown and red in my albums, but they aren't recent.

As far as rinses are concerned, I love beer rinses for the shine. My grandma used to say that brunettes should rinse with vinegar, but I could never find the right ratio of vinegar to water and they always dried out my hair.

Yay for being brunette! I had a golden-medium brown hue as a kid, and now it's dark brown with a reddish-gold tinge. For years I wished I had my mom's color (a unique golden-red color) or at least a dark blonde. I damaged it a lot trying to dye it, ugh. Now I won't let dye get anywhere near my hair!

Since I began noticing more grays than usual last year (they first began popping up when I was 23! :() I decided to use henna after looking around on LHC and seeing all the beautiful post-henna pictures. I especially LOVE how henna looks on darker hair so I wanted to try it!

It lightened my hair a little, but mostly gave it a golden-red tinge, even indoors. It was similar to the color I had as a kid. The little gray strands here and there turned a fiery red, creating awesome subtle highlights. Even my hairdresser noticed and complimented me, he was shocked to learn it was henna :D

Woo love seeing other brunettes on here! I'm a medium goldenish reddish brown(not exactly sure if there's a proper name for that, chestnut maybe?). And like other brunettes, my hair can be pretty red in sunlight. I have used demi reddish brown dyes in my hair, but only three times and the last time I did was last summer.

And, a horribly small picture but this was my virgin hair, during the summer in direct sunlight:

Yay! A brunettes thread!

I qualify, having naturally cool toned dark brown hair that gets dark blonde highlights with sun exposure. I have hennaed it a few times before, which gives it warm tones and red highlights. I was thinking of growing out my natural cool brown for now...but sometimes I feel tempted to henna again (it makes my eyes look greener).

Hooray! I love my brown hair. It's dark brown at the roots, lighter medium-brown-with-red-undertones-and-goldenish-highlights-in-the-right-light at the ends due to sun exposure.

I work teaching wilderness living skills, and as you might guess from my screen name I fancy myself a bit of a forest spirit. My brown hair helps me camouflage amongst the trees and dead leaves, which is really nice. I wear a lot of greens and blues with brown accents, which looks really nice with my hair... When I'm wearing a short green dress over blue pants and shirt, with a brown belt, my belt matches my hair and it really ties the whole look together.

Occasionally I think about dying my hair green with something like Manic Panic. I had semipermanent kelly-green hair when I was 14, and it looked really good... but I think I wear too much green these days to pull it off. It would just be green overload. The brown is necessary to tie those outfits together! :p

Another brunette here. You can see my hair in my avatar <<<
I love the red tones in my hair but I really wish they were more obvious. I've been using acv on and off for a couple of months, usually rinsing it out after but recently I've been leaving it in but it's still not bringing out the red tones like it used to when I first used it. Any tips to really bring out the red (without dye) ?
Beautiful hair everyone!

March 28th, 2013, 04:46 PM
Jenny, you could try hibiscus tea as a rinse, leave-in or mister bottle contents. It's a conditioning herb, so that's a bonus. Just be careful to rinse it off your shower and body (or face if you're mister bottling it), because it's very red! It won't dye your hair permanently though.

Thank you Naiadryade
I'll have to look into that, I already have a lot of red tones in my hair so I'm not sure that I want to dye it although if I ever were to dye (maybe when I start to get gray roots) I will probably give henna a try. That gives a gorgeous red that I absolutely adore! Thank you for the suggestion! I'll make a note to try it sometime in the future. Thanks again.

Checking in as a brunette while I still can. Very dark brown with streaks of rapidly growing white here. I like my white streaks, but I will be very sad to see my hair colour go. I never see hair dye that is as dark as my hair is, but still brown. I feel like when it's gone it will be lost to me for good. It used to be reddish, but it seems to have lost/be losing that, unless it just needs some sun. I read somewhere recently (I wish I could remember where), that being underweight can cause dark hair to turn reddish. I was very underweight for a while, so I wondered if that had anything to do with it, if it is true.

May I join the :thudpile: for Olafwa's hair please? :)

I've been here for 2.5 years and somehow never saw this thread until now! My hair is definitely in the brunette category! It's a reddish-brown with white/silver threads starting at the hairline now. I've colored it many times in the past just for fun, but I've always returned to my natural red-brown color.

I want to resurrect this thread, I haven't seen one lately.

My Mom and Husband looked at my hair after dinner at her house. They said it looked a lot darker and asked me if I colored it. Nope!

I'm 37 years old and haven't colored my hair in three and a half years. (When I did, I'd get blonde highlights)

I was wondering if anyone has noticed that their brown hair has gotten darker? I always thought I was medium brown, but I cut 3 inches off my bangs (fringe) two days ago and it was so much darker than I remember it being many years ago. I really looked at the small chunk of hair in my hand in the direct sunlight coming in from my bathroom skylight. I was amazed at how much darker it was.

Have any of my fellow brunettes noticed that your hair has darkened over the years?

Yozhik
April 30th, 2013, 08:29 PM
Interesting observation, MeowScat!

For me, it's actually the opposite: I used to have really dark, almost black hair, and now it's more dark brown (but definitely brown, especially on the ends).
Obviously, my hair is also much longer now, so that could explain some of the variation in color (time for longer hair to get sun-damaged), so you might want to take my experience with a grain of salt. :)

Other than brunette, I'm never really quite sure what to call the shade of brown I have.

This is totally my case. At the roots, I have very dark brown hair, but at the ends is redish/orangy color. I would say is just the left overs of color I put before. I remember when I had virgin hair, my ends were as dark as the roots.

I'm another whose hair darkened with age. As a baby, my hair was light blonde. It gradually darkened over the course of my childhood, rather steadily. At one point it was a lovely golden brown that I enjoyed. I think it probably reached its final (so far) darkness around the end of puberty, or at least slowed down a lot. Other than my roots, I think my hair may actually look a touch lighter these days than it did when I was a teen because I spend more time in the sun, which lightens it a bit. (See my avatar--those subtle highlights are from the sun, and don't exist in the hair at the top of my head.)

Bringing back this thread just because I'm thinking on become brunette again. My natural color is a very dark brown and I dye my hair in auburn (I love the color, but I'm becoming paranoic with damage).
I'm streching my dyes since july and my dark roots are huge now:

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a503/natalia_natalia1/17-12-13_zps9b766814.jpg

My dye color isn't so orange like in the image, but it's, indeed, very vibrant in the light.

I second arelios, I am growing out my chestnutty brunette hair that I have been highlighting blonde for 25 year! Who knew I had this pretty color underneath all that chemical processing! It has been a year and my natural hair is so much prettier and compliments my skin tone way better! You can do it! And it is totally worth it!

Thanks arelrios & abauer789. I'm going to think about it. I can't remember when was the last time I have my hair 100% natural. I dye my hair since I'm 13 and mostly in red tones. Sometimes I went black too when I got bored.
I want to see how is my hair when it's virgin... I remember it was so healthy and shiny, but it was more than 10 years ago :p

ETA: It's very hard to me to accept my color, it's a very common one and I don't like in me. I think I'll always be frustrated about it.

Thanks for the compliment... I am still trying to discover my hair type. Those are sock bun curls... a very successful day in my hair journey...

I understand what you mean regarding the color... I thought the same ... and even now, when I am happy and loving the color, I get from time to time the "why don't you color your hair?, A lighter shade will compliment you skin tone even better" .... or "please color your hair or at least pluck those silver hairs out. You are too young to be showing those off"...

Le me? ...Nope, thanks... I'm fine, I love it this way and don't plan to change it... :lala:

You can try and see how you feel about the virgin color... if you still think it's not for you, you can always color it again... Do you color with box dye, henna, vegetable dye?

Depending on the choice, it can help or damage the hair ... I am not super knowledgeable in the subject... but I have read a few threads on the "natural/safe way to color" the hair... You can always try that ;)

People are very judgmental sometimes with grays. I don't have them, but I understand what you say. In my case people tend to say me that dark hair suits me better, and it has to be true. I think that there's no color that suits better for the skin than the natural one, but I'm always get bored of the dark color. If it only would be black I'd like it, but it's dark brown and straight. I always think my natural hair is the most bored ever, but I should give it another chance.
Btw, I use box dye, Loreal professional. It works very well for me. Of course I have some damage in my hair, but mostly it's for a previous bleach that I have. But I suspect that dye change my type of hair, maybe if I quit I become more straight or definitely wavy.

Thank you for resurrecting this thread! I went through the same growing out phase but I wish the ombré look was popular when I did it. Your natural color is so rich looking!

My last few inches are still reddish compared to my roots, but the red had faded so much that it's not nearly as noticeable as it was. Have patience! :)

Thanks, I've thinking these days and I'm going to quit dye definetly. It's very hard to have two differrent colors in my hair (I'm a little obsessive with these things) but, whatever, I'll never have the color that I love with at least a little damage.

This is me! I think... after reading the auburn thread, I'm not so sure. My hair's chocolately brown with natural reddish and coppery blonde highlights - depending on the lighting and camera settings, it can photograph really dark, almost black, but there's always a reddish tint/flare.

Rosethorn, I've heard chestnut before, too (though mostly in romance novels :p), and I think it refers to dark brown with reddish highlights.

This sounds like me!

Another brunette here. My hair is still its natural color (I have not colored my hair) and I would probably describe it as medium brown to chestnut brown. Interestingly enough, under sunlight I see my ends becoming light brown/almost ochre color. And not-too-long ago, when I look at part of my hair under indoor lighting, I saw ashy highlights near the roots. I do not know if those are new grays coming (I'm in graduate school now) but I am hoping that the part of my hair where I saw ashiness near the roots is not new grays coming because when my mom started getting gray hair, for a long time (maybe 7-10 years) she would only get a grey hair here and there. My hair tends to photograph darker in color than it actually is, no matter what camera is used.

Personally, I think your natural dark brown is very, very nice with your skin tone. They seem to compliment each other very well. :flower:

Also, the dye and your natural color look good next to each other, so if you want you could just grow out from here without adding any more dye and rock the ombre for a while!

I'm going to do this, indeed, but I'm anoying about the fact that the dark color is so short right now and I have to wait so long to see a "real" ombre effect. Right now I only look lazy :p

DweamGoiL, your hair color is beautiful. The color at the top part of your hair is close to the color my hair color tends to look like in photographs. I have had only a few pictures turn out with my hair color being true to life and during all of those times I was using the fluorescent setting for white balance (it was when I was taking pictures for seasonal color analysis). All other times, my hair photographs either darker or lighter in color.

It seems like a lot of us have natural red highlights. I wonder if that's common for a lot of brunettes? I thought it was just particular to my family (even though there aren't any redheads). My younger brother has dark brown hair like I do but when he grows out a beard it's red!

It's the same for me :) But also, as I grow my hair out it naturally fades at the ends to a lightish reddish-brown, and really a true auburn if it gets long enough. It's very gradual so you can hardly tell unless you hold it up to the roots though, and then it looks totally different!

I think the reasoning behind it is that red is the underlying color in brown hair, like when you bleach your hair, the first "stop" beneath brown is reddish, and then as you bleach the red out it turns more light orange, and if you really keep going and frying it turns very yellow until you use a toner to get it more blonde. So, maybe that explains the reddish highlights in the sunlight a bit? I don't know though, it's just an "educated" guess :)

VegVampireQueen
April 6th, 2017, 12:03 AM
Also: yes, many people think my hair is black! It is dark brown , especially at the roots, but it is definitely *not* black! Especially, as mentioned above, in the sun :) And as the ends get long! :)

Funny story: All of my bridesmaids (all 5 of them!) are naturally blonde– like, bright, light blonde. I was the only one with dark (and yes, very dark!) hair, which none of us had really noticed or thought about until we got the pictures back and it was so striking seeing all of the long blonde hair surrounding my long dark hair in all the pictures where they stood around me. It looked pretty cool actually! And we all thought... what are the odds? Ha! :)

I liked being the brunette one, though! :)

Yes you're exactly right. The ends of my hair which have been exposed to the sun longer, have a warmer tone to them, while my virgin color is more of a cool ash brown. I really love a cool brown on me and don't love the "red" I see in certain lights. The difference in my ends compared to my roots is quite a difference. For the longest time, I thought I was still growing out old color or something and that my hair wasn't growing, haha.

I love it too. I've been sporting the purple for about 6 months now and when I see pics of my dark hair I miss it. But i figure I'll enjoy this while i have it because it'll be a long while before I consider bleaching again. The scalp and grey hairs really are stark against the dark brown, definitely a drawback. The store i worked at, we used to have to wear these red silk scarves for 6 weeks leading up to Christmas, I wore mine as a headband. I got the snow white comments pretty frequently, I always appreciated them. :o

And lol...I always have to control myself to not go emoji overboard.

I've been exactly where you are! Same thoughts and everything. I have almost all my natural color now and the main reason was to enjoy it before I get too many greys. For most of my adult life I've colored my hair, never loving my own color. I started going natural after I lightened my hair from black and incurred A LOT of damage. I really started to appreciate healthy virgin hair color after that. I realized I could do other things with my look to not feel "ordinary" or "boring" but I know exactly what you mean. Hopefully you can enjoy the black while you have it.

I think I'm on that ashy border, and fit here. In summer I get golden reflects in my hair, but when my hair is bleached it has red in it, which makes it brown in tone. My mom has always called it chestnut, but it's a little too ashy for that, IMO.

Yes I love the gold that can come through on ash brown hair. I get a little of that but not enough for me to be in that brown/blonette category. As I've said before...so beautiful when it happens naturally. Anytime I see gold reflects in my hair ( depends on the lighting) I love it. I think as brunettes we have the full spectrum of natural colors in our hair. Some more dominant than others.

Unless we're talking about very dark brown, almost black, or black hair, I don't think there's a difference among most shades of brown. I mean they're all different, but they're also all brunette to me.

I'm also a brunette. Mostly medium ashy brown, except in the summer when the sun lightens it to a light brown/gold color.

Hey I was wondering if there was a thread like this! Thanks for the bump, Bat :)

My hair used to be what people call "mousy" but it has darkened considerably and even changed shade with age!
These are both virgin hair in sunlight, the left being from high school and the right being from April of this year.

And I'll throw in this bonus pic from not too long ago because I just really like it :o
Even though my hair is approximately the same length as the April pic (due to massive trim) I can see the growth! My bangs were nose length!

But just think, Bat... if on anyone else would you call it ugly?

The golden streaks could well be from sun bleaching, which you can protect your hair from. As 0xalis demonstrates above - your colour can change with age too.

I think that's a pretty brown colour Bat!

But I can understand what you are saying. And I think that a feeling of having a wrong virgin colour is not that rare.

I like really dark hair too, and I would prefer black on myself. I have had my hair dyed black several times for several years, and that's when I felt like myself, colorwise... I thought my virgin colour would have been dark brown. Well, it wasn't...

This is my third time when I'm growing out my virgin colour as adult. In the 2 previous times I kept my virgin colour (shoulder/APL length) for some time and then I just felt too bored with it. I felt the colour was ok, but not really for me and not what I wanted.

But time and patience will help, for real. And this forum, it can really help you to brainwash yourself to appreciate all hair colours, even your own, lol.

I can understand you too, Bat. Since I started dying my hair at the age of 13, also experimenting witj several colours, black to me was THE color. The safe color, the one I know I look fine with. Often happened that people thought my black dyed hair was my natural color. And also every friends of mine, before I started growing my own color, thought my hair was a dark brown. I'm in the light brown-dark blonde area.

Bat: Your hair may still become darker. I had blonde hair as a toddler, which then became brown during my later childhood and early adulthood, then finally a darker brown with some reddish ‘highlights’. As per signature picture.

To me, I don’t think your hair looks ugly, but if dyeing it black makes you feel good, then go for it! :)

I do suit dark brown just the goth in me likes black xD but I've dyed my hair so many times it does need a break from permanent dyings

I'd be happy with a brown black but I have a feeling the color will be the same just with greys

I always forget that I have chocolate brown hair. Idk I guess I’m So used to seeing my hair braided up and damp with product, so it’s darker a lot of the times. But if dry and out and about, or just in whatever lighting, it’s like obviously brown. Idk why I rarely remind myself it’s brown lol.

I've accepted my hair color. I have never had the guts to dye it, but I strongly considered going red/auburn over the years, as I also thought brown hair was somehow boring or less adequate. I really like my hair now. It's less of a dark brown and more of a mottled light reddish-brown.

goodness I was negative back then xD I still don't like brown hair on me, but it isn't a big deal I've made it out to be, I still think black is my color and will more than likely keep it black, but I'd like to use semi's incase I decide that I want to see my natural color before greys take over

I took a pic to see if I could notice any growth and then measured it to update my profile inches. Think there’s nearly every shade of brunette in my virgin hair. It’ll be interesting so see if the dark top (with greys!) remains that shade as it grows.
(Probably should have brushed it before the photo, but it’s a true representation of feral hair lol)

It's pretty (love the grays). If that's a true representation (as far as hairtyping goes), I mean... that has to be more than 2a! Did you do a hairtyping yet, Feral (I mean if you should want to)? :)

Thanks! To be honest Lapushka I’m not very clued up about hairtyping, what would you say it is? I put 2a because when brushed it loses the waves more. Bizarrely it can be quite straight and feel ‘stuck down’ if I use a BBB. I tend to use a horn comb as it feels looser, if that makes sense. That pic is pretty much in its natural state. I find it weird how my hair can morph into different textures depending what I use to groom it :hmm:

Thanks Bri-Chan :) I think the ‘natural highlights’ are a result of being outdoors a lot with the elements affecting it. Though nowadays I try and plait it to give it some help!

That's how you do a hair typing photo, washed and air-dried with minimal manipulation ( can detangle with hands though) so natural state

Since my hair is now medium brown that looks more golden brown in the sun, I guess I'm officially a brunette now (but I'm not posting pictures to prove it, since I hate pictures of myself). It used to be strawberry blonde to red until I lost it to chemo. When it came back, it grew in a darker blonde that kept darkening until it got to my current color. Though my hair has darkened (though I'm not sure if it was from chemo or just darkened naturally), my eyebrows and body hair are the same color they've always been. I haven't been a brunette since my senior year of high school (which is over thirty years ago, though I still remember it like it was yesterday) when I dyed it both golden brown and chestnut brown. I dyed it the darker color when one of my classmates thought it was red instead of brown (which was probably due to the lighting in the classroom), so I dyed it a darker shade to neutralize the red tones.

Though some redheads dye their hair after their hair starts to fade and lose its vibrancy, I'm fine with it and won't dye it again until it starts to go gray/white (if that ever happens, since I'm turning 51 at the end of July, and still no gray hairs), since it would totally wash me out. I'll be keeping my current color when this happens, since it will be too much work to go back to my old color (which is why I haven't done it, since my roots would grow in medium brown and I would look like any other brunette that dyes her hair a lighter color, even if its only a few shades lighter).

Officially joining y'all :)

I was a blonette teen, went through several phases of bottle black and bottle blonde, and recently decided to just embrace my natural hair after joining LHC.
I was hoping that my blonette shade would have somehow stuck around, but after 6 months of growing out my roots I am definitely a brunette. I love blonde hair so it took some time to be cool with that, but now I think that brown hair is super pretty. I'm getting a brown gloss on my midlengths and ends (currently faded rose gold) in a couple weeks to get as close to my natural color as possible and finally enter my brunette era for real!

I think everyone should embrace their natural texture and color. I used to put henna in my hair, but I think it is all either grown out or faded out. Natural hair has the most beautiful highlights in it.

Yay!!!

Your hair is beautiful!!

My color can be so weird. Sometimes it looks almost black:

And other times, well, this is pretty red:

https://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p35/jesscernic/wheelbraid_zps4a6d1498.jpg

What would you call it?

Yeah, mine too also both my natural hair color and dyed hair color looks black to me....and also to other people as well! But my natural hair color is dark medium brown, and my dyed hair color is just brown with a little of red tint to it.

Hi all,
I have a question about being a brunette. Do you guys consider black hair a brunette color? Or, do you just consider the brown color being brunette? Or, my question is...would you include black hair in the brunette category?
