View Full Version : (Attempt to) Hairtype your family members!

Does anyone here ever do this? I do, especially for my mom and sister (since they're the only ones in my family with hair long enough to accurately type) but I'll sometimes try to figure out my brothers and my dad! I'd love to post pictures, but sadly, it's really hard to get everyone together and get pics of their hair, lol!

It's really interesting to see all the different types of hair in my own family.

My Mom:
1c/ M/C / iii

My Dad:
1b ? / F/M/ ii
His hair isn't long enough to type accurately, but I'm just trying to give my best guess.

My Sister:
1a/ C / iii

My Little Brother:
1b/ M/C/ iii
Same story as my dad, just not long enough to type the overall thickness. I can def. tell he's at least an M, if not an M/C, though! He inherited my mom's thick hair.

Me:
1a/1b / M / ii

I have several other siblings, but none of them have hair long enough to even guess. I'd say that they all, like me, have finer hair than my mom does. Probably F/M or M and not very thick.

So, do you guys ever do this? What are your results? It's really neat to me to see how much hair varies in my family.

Oh, sounds like fun! I've never thought about it but here we go:

My mom:
3a/3b/C/iii

My sister:
2b/F/ii

My dad:
1b/1c/F/i

My brother:
1c/C/iii

My other brother:
3a/C/iii

My little brother:
1a/F/ii

Me:
2c/F/M/iii

Great idea! :)

My mom:
1b/F/i

My dad:
2c/3a/M/C/ii/iii (he always keeps his hair short but my mom said he had a mullet in the 80's and the long part was rather curly)

My sister:
2b/F/M/ii (everyone has brown hair in my family but my sister is blonde :p)

Me:
2c/3a/M/C/iii

Weee, cool thread:

My father:
2a/ M / iii

My mother:
1b / M / ii

My sister:
2a / F / i-ii

Me:
2a / M / ii

I have exactly the same hair type as my father except that I lost all my thickness after a surgery, but I'm aiming to get it all back :)
My sister inherited someone else's hair type, she has very fine hair almost like scandinavian hair type, very slippery and silky, don't know, maybe she got it after my grannies or uncles :/

Mom: 2a/M/ii.

Dad: 1b/F/ii.

Brother: 1c/C/ii/iii

My hair is extremely similar to my mom's. She uses heat daily, though, so I think she would have the same hair type as me if she took better care of it. Not sure where my brother's coarse hair came from. :hmm:

My mom:
1b/M/i
That would be my best guess. It was thicker when she was younger.

My DH:
1b/ M/ ii
His has been the same since we met. He just has it much shorter now.

My sons:
oldest: 1b/M/ii
His hair has always been nice and soft and it lays well as it grows. He mostly keeps it somewhere between shaved and a faux-hawk.

Middle: 1c2a/MC ( if not all the way C)/ ii
He has hair that has some wave and slight curl and looks very course and out of control till it hits a certain length, then it lays OK, keeps some nice wave and looks much smoother.. but he never can get past that awkward stage before cutting it off. So he keeps it short.

Youngest: 1c2a/ MC/ii iii
His hair is thick. He has some wave and slight curl to it but is heavy enough that it lays nice. He keeps it shoulder length "beach bum" style right now.

Only my youngest keeps his hair long enough to actually type.

Interesting! My hair differes both from my mom and my dad. My brother and I have almost the same kind hair. He just did a big chop, but we had the same length and hair colour before that! :D

Me:
1b/f/ii

Brother:
1b/f/ii

Mother:
1a/f/i

Father:
3b/f/ii

When doing this now, I got insecure about my "curlyness" maybe I've got more curls than I thought (when looking at my avatar). Maybe it's time to do a real clarification and hair type my hair for real.

I clearly DID NOT get my 4b, thick, medium strand hair from my mother. My dad had thick type 4 hair but I couldn't detailedly type him like mom and brother.

Mother: 3a / M/C / ii [Thickness is a guess because her hair is short; she was definitely a iii as a younger woman]

Father: 2c? / M / ? [He's been balding his whole adult life, so I'm making an educated guess about texture based on the remaining horseshoe of hair and his high school photos; it looks like he was probably a iii before he started losing hair]

Sister: 2b/2c / M / iii [Her hair is very similar to mine, just a little curlier and a little lighter in color]

DH: 3a/3b / F/M / ii [Total curlyhead!]

This is such a great thread! Here goes:

My mom: 1c/F/i (color: ash brown)

My dad: 2a/C/iii (color: Silver [used to be brown/black])

I don't have siblings so I'll put my paternal cousin (we grew up like sisters): 2a/M/ii (color: chestnut/auburn).

I think it's fascinating to see that my hair type is almost exactly like my dad's except mine isn't as coarse as his, so my mom's fineness tamed mine down a bit.

GENETICS, YOU SO COOL!:D Lol

Mum- 3 a M/C iiii dark brown
Dad- 2B F ii/iii dark reddy blonde, went pure white in his final years
Eldest daughter 3 a M/C iiii white blonde
Youngest daughter 3a C iiii dark brown

fun!!

my sister: 1a, F, ii
my mom: 1c/2a, M/C, iii

i'm not sure about my dad.. his hair seemed pretty straight.. but based on pictures of him in high school with long-ish hair, i would say 1b, F, ii?

i'm thinking i definitely got my mom's puffy, unruly, humidity-sensitive hair, and my sister got my dad's fine, straight, always-the-same hair. :p

Well, the longest I have seen my dads hair is 2 cm, and it have been 5 mm or less for years (I think he has a thing for razors...) so I can't be sure. But here goes:

My mom: 1a/b / F/M/ ii
My dad: 1a / M/C / i/ii (but only because he is 50 - he used to have much thicker hair)
My brother: 2b/c / M/C / iii

Mom: 3a/C/ii dark brown hair, gets very dry and has afro texture

Step dad: 1c/m/i I put i because he's going bald lol

Fiance: 3b/m/ii-iii I love his hair, he's latino and decided to get a short sides but curls on top haircut like the guys in a fashion ad.

Both of my parents have short hair so it's hard, but my guesses.

Dad
3a/M/ii
Except he's getting older so at this point he's more 2c/M/i, but that's aging rather than natural hairtype.

Mom
1c/C/iii
Possibly 1b, but I'm going by the fact that she really strips the moisture from her hair, so there's probably a little more wave than what shows.

And then I'm a pretty good combination of the two. My color is also right in the middle. My dad has medium-dark brown hair and my mom's was very close to black.
My hair appears black until it's in the light. Then it's very warm almost orange-brown, possibly from the ginger genes on my dad's side.

Mum: 1a/1b / f / iii

Dad: 3a / m / iii?

Brother1: 1b / f / iii

Brother2: 1b / m / ii

Brother3: 1b / m / ii

(two youngest brothers are at the age where it's hard to tell how their textures will turn out; Dad's hair was dead straight at their age and now curls).

Edit: I'm surprised how many people in this thread also have three brothers.

Mom: 1a/F/i/ii
-naturally stick straight hair that has trouble holding curls or wave.
-hard to tell thickness. I bet her hair would be a full ii if she did not blowdry.
-naturally dark brown hair, almost black when she was my age

Dad: 1b/1c/C/iii (not sure it is still iii but it sure was in his younger years)
-blonde hair as a child, turned blondette later

Older sister: 1c/2a/M/C/iii+
-medium brown hair, probably the thickest I have ever seen. It's like two times my ponytail.

Younger sister: 1b/1c/F/M(?)/ii
-not sure about the fine/medium thing...
-hair is straigher than mine.
-lovely ash blonde (but she hates it, as she thinks it's a "dull color")

Me: 1c/2a/F/M/ii/iii
-naturally golden blonde that turns blondette in winter (see my avatar)
-both fine hairs and medium hair. Fine hairs make for a lovely head of frizz...

I really wonder where my older sister and I got our 2a hair from:confused:

It really is cute! Tbh it must suck for guys with curly hair to find stylish cuts that arent standard shaggy hobo artist look. My guy is currently switching between these 2... I think if we have kids they will be 3a curls <3

What a neat thread. :D

Momma:
3b/3c-C-iii
Her hair is a muted red, very similar to Amy Adams's hair color.

Dad:
2c/3a-C-iii
His hair was a very dark brown, but now it's mostly grey :p

Older Brother:
2a-C-iii
He has strawberry blonde hair with blonde and red highlights.

Younger Brother:
1a-F-iii
I don't know where my brother got his hair-type :p He has ash blonde hair. If he lets it grow out, it gets really red highlights (which I think is a genetic defect. :D You can't have ashy and red hair! :p)

Me:
2a/2b-M-iii
Standard variety brown hair with red and gold highlights.

Me:
2c/3a/C/iii

So both my sister's and my curl pattern is a compromise between Mom's kinky-curly and Dad's rather straight -- but my sister has our father's finer, thinner hair texture, and I take after Mom's thick & coarse.

Hmm...

Mum: 2b/c (hard to tell as she's never grown it long)/M/ii
Sister: 1c/2a/M/ii
Dad: 1a/b (again hard to tell as he's never grown it long)/F/M/i/ii (I'm thinking maybe i because of hair loss lol)
DD: 1c/2a/F/ii/iii
DS1: 1b(?)/M/ii/iii
DS2: 1b(?)/F/i/ii

(Hard to tell with boys who have never grown long hair... it looks pretty straight, but when their hair gets a bit longer they get a bit of wave... it could even be wavier than 1b but it's sort of impossible to tell).

And mine is kind of a 1b/M/ii so I can kinda see how genes played a role in my hair :)
