So my 16 y/o cousin brought her new Snow White & The Huntsman DVD with her. In it was Charlize Theron as the evil queen with gorgeous, wavy hair. How do I achieve this hairstyle? It looks like braid waves but when I french braid my hair and leave it overnight, I don't end up with this:

Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Those are waves from twisting, i do these waves most days, they are coming from different directions, i presume each side was twisted away from the face. You can get this from sleeping in double buns (twisted) or you can get then from flexi rollers or curling tongs obvi. Sometimes I just divide hair into 4 sections, and twist away from face (twist in different directions if wanting volume and mixed curl pattern) and leave it to dry and i do make up, always turns out like this.

Is that movie out?!?! I'm running to get it if so!

And up you can try bandanna waves for that. It gives you that nice deep S Wave and the instructions are in the tutorial section. It always turns out too kinky on my though because of my layers and the fact that I do way too many. I say make them nice and thick and you'll be fine!

Oh wow what gorgeous hair! Maybe a french rope braid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQLIjmsFuVw) would do something close to this?

Ooo yess, french rope braid! The revised version of headband curls might give you something similar, there's a thread on it if you do a search, i think it was oksana who made the thread. lol i found the link anyway, but yeah it's more of a curl than a wave http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=99822

Hey guys, thanks for the input! I'm going to try the french rope braid overnight trick. Just one question: my hair tapers a bit towards the end, so the twists will be smaller. If you look at Charlize's hair in the film, which seems to be cut in a V, the waves are equal all around. Anyone know how that is achieved?

Sincei it's probably wig, maybe it's achieved through curling iron, or a straightener. I saw a video on youtube once when a girl can achieve that kind of waves by twisting the straightener up and down.

I tried french rope braids tonight, I made two but it didn't turn out at all as the waves above. I've made only one rope braid before too, but I never get those waves.
I haven't tried the bandana thing yet, so I'm gonna give that a go soon.
Most likely those waves has been created by a curling iron or straightener, but I'd prefer to not use heat. Maybe finally one day we'll figure it out!

Maybe add in a large parandi? That will make the wave pattern a little larger..

The middle photo is very much like my natural type, but I don't know how you would get hair like this artificially, loose rope braids maybe?
