View Full Version : September, the month of Hair

For the month of September, I've decided to post a hairstyle-a-day.

Because this is the 2nd, I have two posts today:

Sept 1st:
Very simple. Parted down the middle(slight side part in front) and twisted. Only added hair from around hairline. (lace style) Rope braided the tails into ONE and then bunned that. I started with pins as seen in picture, but later switched to hairsticks.

Sept 2nd:
I watched 'Return of the Jedi' the other night and just had to try Leia's Endor Hair.
For years, my hair has been to short, even now it was barely long enough to cross over the top of my head!

I parted it down the middle, then braided a small section of hair(from the underside) on each side. I then english braided the remaining hair into two. I then bunned each braid around it's opposite and pinned. Then pulled each of the smaller braids over the top of my head. Pinned behind each braid to cover the ends.
I cant wait to continue this style as my hair grows!

Your hair is amazing and lovely!!! So very intricate. I have a small patch at the nape of my neck that I color in pretty colors. My daughter patches it for me. I hope to have it weave into my braid someday like you have. Super cool!! :magic: Right now it weaves into my stub, but seeing your beautiful braids - I dare to dream. :eyebrows: Please keep it up and Happy September!!!

Sept 3rd:
We are hiking today, so the main goal is to keep it contained AND it has to fit under my hat. :)
No parting, just dutch french braided the sides till about my ears(Braid to ends). Then added them after a few turns of a simple french with the rest of my hair. It keeps the side flyaways' contained under my hat and the bulk of my hair off my neck.
(normally I would say a bun is the best hiking hair, but alas, I have very light skin and need as much sun protection as possible)

Tomorrow is a wash day, so the goal today was to keep my hair up while the coconut oil does its thing. I also wanted something that I could walk out of the house with. This was the first time I tried a crown braid so far back on my head... I like how it turned out!

For those of you who are curious about my color, these are the details!

YES! It is bleached....I know I know...
In 2009 I bleached about 90% of my hair to the root. For the next year, I had a blast playing with colors, but lost almost HALF of my thickness from breakage! After that, I continued to color, but vowed to stay away from the bleach, and find out how to prevent more damage from happening.

My ends are whats left of that first bleaching in 2009.
About a month ago I bleached two streaks above my ears(and back from my temples). I missed the color mixed in with my styles. I also felt comfortable with it this time around because of my new-found knowledge of hair care.

I ONLY use Manic Panic (http://www.manicpanic.com/best_of_best.html) colors. They are very conditioning(for my hair) and the compounds are veggie based!.

The two streaks above my ears are MP Enchanted Forest over fresh bleach.

My ends have been dyed so many times that they never come out the true color of the dye. (they always have a slight blue tint, even when completely faded)
They are currently dyed Enchanted Forest. When that faded a little, I dyed just the tips with my own blend of Ultra Violet and VooDoo Blue.

Thanks again for everyones' kind comments! I hope I can continue to impress!

I still have a bit of a sinus headache today, so my goal was to keep my hair soft and not to have any one part pull or cause pressure.
This was my result:
Loose lace twist 'cornrows'. Twisted to the ends. Then braided into a half-up ponytail braid, to the ends. I then used that half-up braid as one part and split the rest of my hair into two, braided down back.
I find that splitting the hair up like that reduces weight on any one part...
