View Full Version : Use the THREAD RATINGS! :)

Over the years, we've been progressively adding features and one feature that has been around for a while, though little known, is the thread rating feature. This feature, located at the top of the first post, is a handy little tool for...yup...rating threads (betcha couldn't have guessed that one ). If you come across a particularly useful, informative, or fun thread, go ahead and rate it a five! If the thread stinks, well, rate it accordingly. If you just don't care, don't sweat it! Don't rate it at all!
Using this tool is quick and the benefits run long. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to locate all of the most useful threads on one page? Well, because you can sort the forum threads by rating, you can corral these nuggets of gold all into the same place and read until you're cross-eyed.
Just a thought. Whether we all wind up using it regularly or not doesn't really matter, but I wanted you all to know about it.
Have fun!

Sorry, snowbear, we must've been posting at the same time. The smart ass I meant to rib was yours truly. ;)

Ah, quite all right. I took it as a joke, so no hard feelings. In fact, I'm cracking up right now.

Is there any way to change it from stars to cheeses?

So did I, before I scrolled down and found out everyone else did, too.

Funny I did too - just to try it out - and then saw you all had as well. It's going to be great to be able to find threads I really like later instead of trying to find a good search term.

Or maybe coffeebeans?

I like the coffee bean idea. *Jonsing for a fix...* :D

Oh, so that's what those little stars are for! And there was me thinking they were just there to look pretty. ;)

Um, is it just me or are the ratings back to front. I thought the white stars count as one point??
it says all grey is excellent and all white is terrible, shouldn't it be the other way around? If you look the top has no white stars and it slowly builds to the bottom one would assume it goes from bad to good.
Or maybe i'm wrong?

I think it's just the color scheme. White was probably supposed to blend in better with the background denoting no star. Grey was probably supposed to stand out more denoting the star.

so that means the words are the things to listen to. It just looks all backwards in my mind! WIll take some getting used to!

What are the little blue things I see above the stars (or lack thereof) on some of the threads?

Apparently they are "tags" with various labels on them. What they do exactly, I'm not sure!

On this board, that's like saying "Some longhair, I suppose."

When a thread has a tag, you see it (or them) at the almost end of the thread page. You can click on it to see other threads with the same tag.
I wanted to show an example, but at this moment I couldn't find a tag that is used more than once. When it is used more often, I guess it will be very handy. :)
Edit: I just saw one ;) : Tag Jojoba (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/tags.php?tag=jojoba)

Ooooo, thanks for this.
Is there some type of backlog for ratings, like... can we access the threads we have rated through our userpage somehow? Or is it just for search functions?

This would be a great feature! There are so many topics on this forum and it would be awesome to be able to look at my profile and see which ones I had rated highly to get to them quickly. Any way that that might be on the way??

The thread rating feature has recently been disabled because it wasn't working out the way it was intended. I doubt that the extension you suggest will be forthcoming, LovelyGoddess.
