The bun is made with a ponytail. On the photo I have two tiny frenchbraids on the sides, thats an option but not necessary.

Make the ponytail high or low like on the photo.
Start with a taking a small lock on top of the pony and twist it around your fingers. Pin the 'curl' above the base of the pony and take a new lock, twist it and pin the curl next to the first so you'll end up with curls pinned all around the base of your ponytail, making a big bun. You can use bobbypins, it also works with small clawclips.

You can dress it up with nice hairpins or flowers or just wear it as it is.

Nice bonus: when you take it out later on, you will have the most lovely buncurls!

Since this one follows a similar pattern to the 3D braid, but takes quite a bit more time, it seemed logical to add the 4th dimension and call it 4D braid.

- Comb hair and divide it into 6 equally thick strands at the base of your neck.
- Take the outer left strand and place it in front of your left shoulder.
- Take the strand from the outer right side and put it over your left shoulder, too. But do not put it over the outer left strand which is already waiting there, put it ībehindī it. Thatīs a bit fiddly.
- Take the outer left strand going over the new strad from the previous step and also going over itīs two next neighbours. Or in other words, place it in the middle of the 4 remaining strands behind your back.
- Now take the outer left strand (the one from behind your back, not the single one in front of your shoulder) and put it over your right shoulder.

- Take the strand from the front of your left shoulder and place it in the Middle of the 4 strands behind your back.
- Take the outer right strand (from the ones behind your back) and put it over your left shoulder.
- Now place the strand hanging over your right shoulder in the middle between the 4 strands behind your back.
- Repeat.

When you take the braid to the front to finish it (or if your hair is not long enough to put it over your shoulders in the beginning) you can also put it to the left (or right) of the hand holding the other strands. This works equally good, but may be more confusing to remember which one was the left and right side of the hand. Itīs also possible to temporarily hold the strands with ones mouth, though it did not turn out to be necessary for me.
I recommend braiding without looking into the mirror, seeing it mirror-inverted is more confusing than helpful. Just conzentrateing on the pattern is easier.

Happy finger-knotting

Its really quite simple.

First separate your hair horizontally so that the top bunch is larger.

Then take three equal sections of hair (judge what size suits you best depending on your hair) at the top left 'corner' of your head, quite close to your hairline at the front.

Begin to french braid it diagonally across your head so that it finishes about ear level.

If you don't know how to french braid, you do a normal plait, but each time you cross the right section over the middle section and then the left section over the middle section, you add another smaller section of hair to the left and right sections.

You will have that far smaller section of hair (smaller proportion of your head I mean as there may be quite some length) left over (if its easier, at the beginning you can separate the two sections with hair ties).

Do exactly the same with this smaller french braid, but start with tiny sections and do not take as much care to make the sections even.

Either secure the remaining hair with hair ties and a claw clip as I did, or if you have more hair you will have to braids that you can twine together and either put up or leave

Well there you go, I hope that helped! Remember its all about having fun and experimenting! EVERYONE gets better with practise

The Split Bun

Although I invented this bun independently, I was not the first person to do so, so I cannot take full credit for it.

First, gather hair into a ponytail (this didn't really need a picture, did it?):

Bring the hair up and wrap it around your fingers:

If I'm using a shorter stick, I'll only wrap the hair around my index and middle fingers rather than the whole hand. If you have shorter hair this might work better than wrapping it round the whole hand.

Next, wrap the tail around the base of the loop:

Split the loop in two and fold the right half to the left and the left half to the right:

Secure by placing the stick in one loop, under the middle, and out the other loop:

If you would like an updo that is easy, fast, elegant, comfortable and fairly secure, you have come to the right place. This style works best on shorter lengths; between just below shoulder to about BSL. If you hair is thicker, you will need a little more length, if it is thinner, this style could work for you at shoulder length.

All you need is a beak style clip or hair pins or tiny jaw-claws and a brush or comb.

Here's how:

1) Gather all of your hair into a smooth ponytail just above the "equator" of your head. Do not secure it.

2) Wrap the length of the ponytail around your fingers or hand. (Depending on how much length you are working with.) If you are attempting this with longer hair, you will have to make multiple wraps. Don't wrap the hair too tight.

3) Holding the hand with the hair wrapped on it with the fingertips against your scalp (as if you are going to dive your fingers into your head) gently and smoothly slip the wrap off your hand and gently twist it as you quickly and smoothly lie it against the back of your head.

4) Secure the roll (the top of the 'do) with a clip or hair pins or tiny jaw claws. If you want this style to hold like iron, use pins and secure the roll and tuck a few pins into the twist running down your head.

Enjoy.

3D braid - 5 strands

Disclaimer: Advanced braiding with 5 strands. Be carefull when trying this at home, braiding is at your own risk. I donīt take responsibility if your brain or fingers should knot up during the process consider yourself warned - here it goes.

Since everyone holds her/his hands differently when braiding, I only describe how to do the pattern itself.
Good luck, have fun and lots of patience and practice, practice and more practice will help.

1. Separate your hair into 5 equal strands. Put the outer right strand over three strands to itīs left.
2. Put the outer left strand over two strands to itīs right...
3. ...and back under one strand to itīs left.
And repeat and repeat and ...
Thatīs all. Really !

4. O.K. one more time Outer right strand over three strands to itīs left.
5. Outer left strand over two strands to the right and back again under one strand to the left. Repeat steps until you run out of hair. Secure with elastic.
6. Thatīs how it looks finished. Kind of hard to take a 2D picture of a 3D braid and the triangular cross-section is visible much better in person than on the screen.
