   De-mistify the dimethicone/cone debacle
helping those understand what 'cones' are.

Bottom line? Dimethicone is a compound, used in many things around us. Not just in shampoo/conditioner, but contact lenses, amoungst other things. Are you going to ditch your contact lenses as well as your shampoo and conditioner?

Wait! Think again.

What people need to remember is that the percentages of this compound will vary from product to product. The amount you would find in shampoo and conditioner is such a trace amount, I seriously doubt there is much to worry about.

Making people fear dimethicones in their shampoos and conditioners is unjust--unless you are noticing allergic skin reactions whenever it is used. Or, if your hair simply doesn't like it. But, it doesn't mean it's bad for everyone. What 1 person likes, another person can hate. Does that mean we all should throw away our coney products?

NO!

Instead, do some research--keeping in mind that what you find on the internet is not always gospel truth. It's what I would call a learning curve. Gather information, then look at your current shampoo/conditioner. Then, look at you hair.

What are you striving for? Long, thick, lushious locks that reach to the floor? The shimmer with shine?

Well, instead of inspecting your shampoo/conditioner as the culprit of your lacking locks, consider the more obvious:
Genetics--does your family have thick, long, healthy hair? Did anyone have this? Did it grow fast? Your genes are going to tell you a lot more about yourself and your hair than the Internet or shampoo.
Overall Health: Do you suffer from any illnesses? Take medication? There are many auto-immune diseases that cause hair loss, along with medications that can also contribute to hair shedding.
Do you eat healthy? Get enough exercise and sleep? Do you smoke? Drink in excess? Eat a diet comprised of fatty foods? Do you drink enough water and milk? A health inside makes for a healthy outside---including skin and hair and nails.
Hair Care Regiem
How do you treat your hair? Do you tear out elastics and hear ping-ping-snap? Do you bleach it with peroxide? Peroxide is known to dry out hair, and pulling and tugging of the strands will cause breakage, hence people notice their ends thinner than at the scalp, simply due to the fact that hairs will break and not grow evenly.

Finding a healthy hair care routine that is right for you should be fun! So, enjoy what you read here, and try out different methods. Some people love coconut oil, but my hair hates it. Mine prefers olive oil. I don't leave mine in, but soak, then clarify, then use a (gasp) cone conditioner.

I've found a routine that works for me, and I'm glad it's basic and simple. I enjoy all the reading here on LHC, and am happy I found some great people and great hair tips. Instead of panicking and thinking 'oh no, I have to throw away all my stuff', instead, get a few new products and just test them out. Many types of shampoos and conditioners come in travel sizes, which are great to use as testers. See if your hair likes it before buying the big bottle.

Use the swap board to try soap nuts, catnip and/or other natural products instead of diving in and buying it all once, at top cost.

That'll help you save money as well as help you enjoy, learn and have fun. Remember, hair will take time to grow. The only thing they don't sell out there for hair growth is patience.

That my friends, is up to you.
