For me, it settled down a lot when I stole my mother's heavy moisturizing night cream and started putting it on my face 24 hours a day. Might be worth a try.
Huh, that might be me. My face always flakes after a shower but I'm tentative about putting too much moisturiser on, because by the end of the second day it gets greasy. This might be partly from my hair touching it but having read this it might be that it's overproducing oil. I don't really do much to my face in terms of washing it, but even so just water seems to dry it out. I do have a theory that some of my breakouts are due to flaking clogging the pores, so maybe I should be moisturising more.

Of course, my scalp flakes after washing, too, and milder washing methods don't do any good
