As it's the celebration of the Queen's diamond jubilee this bank holiday, I made a Paranda with red, white and blue threads to represent the union flag. Here it is as part of a French braid (my first attempt):

    And bunned:

For those struggling with creating the Paranda itself, I took photos of the knot as I was making it, because the use of three colours makes the technique a bit easier to see.

I can't believe I've only just noticed this thread! I think this looks so beautiful, and I love the look of yarn in hair (I always get so jealous of people with dreads who can wrap lovely yarns into their hair!). I'll definately be giving this a try asap.

(And thanks Arrow for those super-clear instructions on how to do the knot! )

And thanks for the knot-pictures, I think they will be a BIG help for me!

I've been searching the house for my bag of yarn and it seems to have disappeared

Ooh, I like that idea! Although if I did a yellow and blue one I think the yellow might disappear in my hair, bah.

I like the idea of red white and blue as the U.S. Independence day is in a month! It is one of the few holidays I celebrate.

I wasn't sure whether to put this in here or start a new thread, but seeing as the people wearing parandi look in here I thought I'll start by asking in this thread.

I just washed my hair for the first time since wearing the paranda (I have two - 100% acrylic yarn and one of Noro Taiyo which is a cotton/silk/wook mix) and although my hair didn't feel noticeably dryer before washing, when I'd finished washing it it appeared to absorb as much water as when I did the coconut oil shampoo. It didn't drip at all. Has anyone else had this happen?
