Thumbs up Making my own homemade coconut oil :)

So after a couple of years not using coconut oil.

I decided to try it again, since I had a tiny amount left sitting unloved.

And what do you know my hair liked it! so I'm going to coconut oil my hair every so often as a treat.

Trouble is I have ran out of coconut oil. To buy a new tub would cost me £15! For a big tub. I only need alittle.

So I'm going to make my own
    Very exciting

I found a few videos on youtube on how to make your own homemade coconut oil

I'm going shopping Monday to buy a 3 coconuts and will have a go at making it

I'm wondering though if I could extract coconut oil from tinned coconut mik? it might be easier if it works.

I will let you know how I get on.

Has anyone else made their own coconut oil?

Tips and advice would be most welcome

Oh wow! I've never made my own coconut oil but that is cool!

I don't think it would be ideal to extract it from canned coconut milk, because they often contain thickeners and preservatives and such that I'm sure you don't want in your oil. If you can find organic canned coconut milk with no additives I'm sure it would be fine however.

It doesn't look too difficult, but its a pretty long process. If you do end up doing it, let us know how it goes!

I got my coconut oil from Tesco for £6, and others have found it for just £1, thats go to be better than the hassle of making it yourself, unless you enjoy making it of course Just wanted to make you aware that it is available cheaply in the UK

I live in a small seaside town we have a Holland and Barret and their coconut oil is £15

I had a look in both my local Superdrug for the cheap one, no luck and my Tescos is a smaller branch one and I haven't found any coconut oil.

    Thanks for the advice

I think I will have a go at both methods with coconuts and the organic coconut milk. I will report back my results monday

    Thanks for the advice

Aw I am surprised you have a H+B, but not a decent Tesco, I have 3 huge Tesco's in a half hour drive radius, but no H+B, how odd!!
If you have no luck, I'd happily get you some and send it out too, just poke me if you want

I'm very interested in seeing how this turns out, even if its not a success.
