Hiding in plain sight
Re: Frustrated with my wurls
1. What can I do to make my wurls more even while my layers grow out?
Experiment with finger-combing some product through your clean, damp hair. I'd recommend a styling cream since your hair is on the dry side. Product works best for me if I rub it between WET palms and fingers, then finger-comb through my hair, then drag palms over surface of hair.
2. Will giving my hair the moisture it needs boost and define curls?
Results vary. Try it and see.
3. If so, what moisturizing treatments would you recommend?
Try SMT (1 part conditioner, 1/2 part honey, 1/2 part aloe vera gel). My hair responds well to occasional treatments with Joice KPak Reconstructor.
4. Is there any way I can push my 2c hair more towards being 3a?
After using product, try twirling strands around and around your fingers.
5. Would a leave-in conditioner be benefitial for my hair? If so, which have you had the most success with?
We had one made by Paul Mitchell for pets that worked really well.
6. Is CO washing a good method of washing for 2c hair?
Results vary; give it a try. My hair responds well to CO if I only do it once. The more times I do it in a row, the limper and oilier my hair looks. I prefer CWC.
7 (last one, I promise!). What is the BEST thing I can do to care for my wurls?
Let your hair grow out. Length cures a variety of unruly ills. Meanwhile, try to resist heat styling. I relied on the curling iron to tame my wild waves at shorter lengths, then I had to cut away a lot of damage later. Oh - and put it into a top of head loose-ish ponytail at night.

Re: Frustrated with my wurls
One more thing: results vary, but my hair responds extremely well to coconut oil applied generously as a pre-wash treatment. Conditioner seems to remove oil better than shampoo, so I coat my oiled length with conditioner and let it sit for about 5 minutes before I shampoo my scalp area and rinse.
I've noticed that when I generously oil my hair, and it gets wet without being washed, it curls up all over the place. I wish it didn't look so oily at the same time; I love the curls!
