Hey, that's pretty cool, especially with the flat spring! Does it have a good grip? The stiffness and grip of Ficcares is a large part of why they work so well for people.
(Ficcare, take note! Some of us like copper color!)
I've heard (and read) lots of things about ficcares, and how they hold one's hair in place, but i could never afford one (or at least the "you spent HOW much on *that* ?!?!?" lecture from my wife... ) So after some bathroom renovation left me with several pieces of old copper pipe... I decided to make my own (as far as i can tell it is the ~large size from the measurements), i am currently using a flat spring out of an old clothespin, hoping to upgrade to a coil spring from a mousetrap (slightly stronger, even though the current one holds fine)
planned improvements are - proper hinge pin (no drill bit), and make the back part a bit narrower (sometimes it's a bit troublesome to get to fit)
and some pics (including a couple of it in action
Edit: a making of video series is here - (completed) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...XuhmyO6pZJwFmE

Long hair hiatus: short hair for now, buzzcut!
Thanks it holds fairly well, once i get everything mooshed around (seems to work better with flat-ish buns), at least i can jump/run around and it doesn't fall out (unlike the 2-prong forks i've been using)...
yeah, i noticed a distinct lack of copper-colored ficcares during my research... wonder why they don't make 'em that color?
How the heck did you *do* that!? AMAZING!
Jeez, you are clever!!! That is awesome! If Ficcare don't start producing copper clips, you could have a new income producer That looks amazing in your hair and suits you so well!

Mod hat off. Mod hat on. Don't make me wear the mod hat, it messes up my hair. *grin*
Wow, super-clever! That's a pretty incredible clip!!
If you do this again or change a spring, like you planned to, I hope you can take pictures/notes/video of the process, pretty please? By the way, if you are interested, we have a DIY Modding a Ficcare thread and an awesome Self-made hairtoy thread on the LHC, and crafty LHCers would probably love your expertise!
Those are some incredible skills you've got! Congrats!
Wow! That's fab
