Hair straightening fail!!!

A classmate of mine used to straighten her fringe every day with an iron. U wanna know what the result was, after a few months? Split ends ALL OVER her frindge. They were so many, that the ends of her frinde were white- which made a scary contrastwith her dark hair.. I have never seen anyone with that much damage on their fringe. Ew!!

I'm wondering though... how to straighten the hair that's very close to your scalp like that?

It also makes me think of that waffle-iron sort of thing we used to have at home to turn straight hair wavy, like this. I always thought it looked silly so never used it.

Oh, you don't like the crimped look? That was the 80s version of those raccoon stripes, I think. Even a similar sort of look.....

Anyone remember those "waffle waves" crimping irons that made little squares instead of Vs? |_|⎺|_|⎺|_| instead of \/\/\/\/\ Those were weird, and I can't find a pic of it now. ETA: Ah, she's got one... Not getting the effect I recall from the infomercials, though.
