My hair is very fine and thin. It also breaks easily and I've felt like it is very slow in growing, or at least getting a few inches past my shoulders because it breaks so much.
I admit, I used to dye it until recently but I plan on discontinuing that. My skin is also very greasy, as well as my scalp, I wash every day mostly due to this and it definitely doesn't help my hair appear thicker. It clumps to my head due to the oil and the ends are dry and brittle. I heard of herbs such as Bhringaraj oil that can stimulate hair, but does it actually help thicken too, has it worked for anyone? I just want a head of more hair or thicker hair that looks smooth and silky but not greasy. |

I have dyed/bleached my hair too many times. It is very fine and thin, and my scalp gets greasy quickly, along with my skin.
I heard that Bhringaraj oil can help stimulate hair growth, has it worked for anyone? I just want thicker, fuller, more hair... Please help? |

Could you tell us a little more about your routine, products, combing, brushing, etc.?
The thing is, if you have fine and thin hair from genetics, there's nothing you can do to grow more hairs or thicker hairs. If the fineness and thinness is because of something you're doing, then there are changes you can make. |

Oh, if only it worked that way. It may stimulate growth, I can't speak from experience, but there is no magic hair thickener out there. The person who came up with it would be a billionaire. I don't mean to sound like a smarta**, but the best thing you can do is be gentler with your hair and maybe do scalp massages. Do you brush or do you comb? Hey, I have fine hair and mine appears to be getting thicker since I quit using a brush. Maybe it would also work for you? Also, if you don't want to try henna because you don't want to color your hair, you could try cassia. From what I've heard, it has the same benefits as henna without adding any color. Anyways, I hope this helps.
I just remembered that the part of my hair that has been dyed several times is the thinnest part of my hair, and the hairs are finer as well. Maybe once you grow out the dye?Last edited by Rebelkat; July 1st, 2008 at 05:12 PM. |

Stopping the dye will make a huge imrovement- but it will take time to see the improvement. For my fine hair, I stopped brushing, did overnight oiling (and I also have oily scalp- this really does help) and CWC with gentle shampoos. Think of it this way- you need to build the strength of the hair while the damaged, thin part is growing out. So along with massages, oiling, you should consider a good hair vitamin. Make sure you're getting enough protein, also.
Good luck- this stuff really does work. You just have to find what works for your hair and keep doing it! |

I tried cassia recently, and I think it helped to plump up my hair a bit. My hair is fine and delicate also. Try to handle your hair very gently.

Ahh, if only there were a permanent and fast solution!
All I can say is to treat your hair gently, like "antique lace" as many here say. My thickness has increased by about 1/2" since I joined and it's all due to finding a good routine for my hair and letting time take care of it. Some changes that I made and that may help you: -stopped using the hairdryer and straightener -ditched the brush in favor of a wooden comb (I am actually now just fingercombing for some reason...) -washing less frequently -using a more gentle shampoo (CV bars) and no conditioner at all on the scalp (I've found that applying it on the scalp was causing shedding) -scalp massages with coconut oil HTH! |
