I've not heard of this before, but I went and had a little look via google and found a website that said: Lovage leaves contain vitamins A and C, and its seeds contain sodium, iron and zinc.
Zinc and vitamin A work together to maintain natural oils in the scalp, and prevent dry hair.
Vitamin C helps maintain healthy hair, and iron prevents hair loss. (obviously they do other things as well, but these are hair-related)
However, i'm not sure how effective it would be when you wash with it, or apply it topically, but it can't hurt to try. Maybe rinse with an infusion, or make a runny mixture to use as a hair treatment.
Make sure to update if you find anything that works well. If I can find a lovage plant, I might try it myself, but its a little hard to get hold of where I am, and i'm doing a few other experiments at the moment, and i'm not sure I would get any accurate results.
EDIT: By the Way, make sure you don't use the lovage root. It is used in a lot of hair removal products, and so likely has the opposite effect on your hair. Just use the leaves and seeds.
