In general my family hates my long hair and they take every opportunity to tell me so.
"When you gonna cut all that hair off?"
"I hate that long hair."
"I didn't recognize you. Your hair got so ...long...."
"But you looked so pretty with short hair."
I had slight beyond waist length hair in high school and thanks to completeignorance and tremendous amounts of stress my hair fell out in wads. I had a bald spot at the base of my neck where new hair was growing but it looked horrible. So much so that a classmate offered $100 for anyone to cut my hair.
So my Mom and Mamaw tricked me into a beauty salon where they cut it all off. ALL OFF. I was left a cap of dark curls less than an inch long. I cried, oh how I cried. After it was said and done with I found that I did in fact like the short hair. Mostly because I adore curls and now I had dozens to play with. But the hassle of constantly washing and maintaining it was a nightmare. But fortunately I was finally an adult in college far away from my family. And then started the hated growing out process. I despise every length between pixie and waist.
My beloved curls turn into an afro at 4-5 inches btw.
Now I'm happily at THO and growing. Apparently I have a great great grand mother whose hair swept the ground so I have high hopes for my terminal length. And thank fully I live very faraway from my family but
everytime I go home "What's wrong with you why you want hair so long like that." "It must be so much trouble."
Not as much as short hair was!
Oddly even.my mom who has hip length hair hates my long hair.
Fortunately my DH likes it and looks forward to our daughters having it as well and as soon as he gets a job that doesn't require above the collar hair he's going to grow his out too. He's always wanted to braid it he says. Ah I love that man.
