I voted fine and protein did not work. The front and sides are mostly fine and the back and underside is normal but the fine parts are affected more by protein. I get bad tangles and dry hair if I so much as look at a product containing protein I can't even use coconut oil anymore because it causes my hair to retain too much protein.

I also eat a lot of protein in my diet, not sure if that makes any difference.

I have what I think is coarse hair and protein works great. I do weekly protein treatments and balance with moisture the rest of the week. I used Bone Marrow protein treatment for years and my hair was at its finest (I would balance with Aussie moist shampoo). Nowdays I am far away from the US and can't find Bone Marrow, however I am using Mega-Tek which is protein based and my hair is thriving again.

I have normal hair with sprinklings of coarse strands throughout. Protein does not work for me. I get crunchy, dry hair with just one use.

I have normal hair, probably on the thicker side the longer it gets. I just did a deep treatment of protein in the bath last night and it's the first, FIRST time my hair has felt thick and happy and silky... and I've been trying many many things. Honey/oil/conditioner treatments help, yes, but nothing really seems to "quench" my dry hair... and protein did. I used Le Kair Cholesterol Plus. I'm going to try not to overload it but it was so hallelujah to feel my ends soft again!!

I have M/C hair maybe mostly coarse, I'm not sure. I do have some finer bits on the layer next to my nape though. And I didn't vote because yes, sometimes I do need protein, but there are times when I really don't need it. Lately, I've done two or so protein treatments because I felt it was time for them and the protein made my hair softer and silkier. The last protein treatment I did was about 5 months ago or so, maybe even longer than that, so no I don't need protein often but I don't pay attention to whether I am getting protein in my conditioners. I have found that conditioner doesn't have enough protein and/or isn't left on long enough to really contribute much to the moisture/protein balance in my hair.

ETA: I just checked my blog and it's been 10 months, so I guess my hair really doesn't need extra protein often.

I have fine hair, leaning a bit towards normal, and it LOVES protein. Mmmm protein. In all forms-- both in my diet, and directly applied.
If you pretend to feel a certain way, the feeling can become genuine all by accident.

My hair is to the fine side of medium, not very porous, and protein really doesn't affect it much either way
