Default Ficcare shipping rates: why so pricey?

I'm pouting over not having snagged a Ficcarissimo on the Swap Board so I thought I'd check out the website.

What the??? If I buy one Fic, shipping is another half the value-ish of the item, on top of that?? USPS, that is...DOUBLE if you go with UPS. I don't get that. We Swap Board junkies know how little we pay to ship. I've never received anything that was more than a few bucks in shipping.

How do they justify those sort of charges? I can't even believe the USPS sets those -- do the Fic. people add on top?

    Weird...

Yes, I AM whining and pouting...

Yep its really bad for us overseas people - what you need to do is find a friendly LHCer in the US who will buy for you and post it. Thats what I did and it saved me heaps

I found a used one on ebay for a good price. It did have a little chip on it, but they showed a picture of it and I was fine with that. I'm still enjoying that clip, it holds great!
Finally at BSL!!! Now aiming for waist!

I was very surprised by the lack of padding in their shipping. My 2 clips were in 1 box, one clipped on to the other, just bouncing off each other. You would think they could afford a little piece of bubblewrap for each one considering the cost.

My Ficcares have NEVER come this way!

They did come in a box but they both were in their own separate plastic wrappers.

Mine, too. The box was attractive and I actually kept it.

I only ordered because they were offering free shipping if you spent $80. I don't think I'd buy if I had to pay for shipping.

I also ordered for the free shipping along with 15% off for Valentines day and they came individually wrapped in a lovely gold box.

As someone that ships internationally a lot, here's why:

If you ship First Class International you could get a Ficcare box to Europe for about $7-8. The problem with First Class is that 1) there is no insurance 2) you cannot track it 3) there's no delivery confirmation. If Ficcare sends a clip this way and the customer says "I never got it" they can't prove it either which way.

The next upgrade to shipping is First Class Priority, which for even a small box starts at like $20. This you CAN insure/track/get delivery confirmation, which is probably why Ficcare goes with it.

I suspect you are right but it would still be nice if they would offer a cheaper shipping option and explain that this wasn't covered by insurance - its a thought
