Well, my hair just doesn't want to be dyed at all. I can't use chemicals, and the henna just is not staying. Just going to learn to love the grays and the mucky natural color.
I do like the condition the henna leaves my hair in. But I dislike the roots more that are steadfast in refusing to take any dye, they don't like it, they don't want it!
Full henna, using a mix of 1/2 Raj and 1/2 Dark of the Moon from H4H. 200 g at just past chin length. Dye released for 24 hours, left on for 9 or 10 hours. Clarified my hair, got it to damp dry without conditioner, soaked my hair in the mud including rubbing it onto my scalp. Washed out with a lot of water and cheap conditioner.
My hair has ALWAYS been resistant to dye when it was brittle and porous - I think now that I'm actually seeming to grow healthy hair that isn't so porous and rough, it just doesn't take dye well at all.
I figure I could fight it some more and try several things - but it's always going to be a fight to get my hair to dye, so I may as well learn to live with it as is while I only have a "little bit" of hair to cut off vs if I get to BSL and decide I hate the henna and have to loose that much hair.
Maybe you got dye demise? I left henna to dye release overnight once and got fantastic dye demise - no color whatsoever. Did you keep it warm during that time?
Soft hair that is nice to sit on - now I'm bragging!
I too have to wonder if your dye had demised to the point of being invisible...
My henna tends to release in an hour or so, sometimes less depending on the day.

Wow! You are doing all the right things. I have never heard of hair *that* henna resistant. That's like some amazingly cool superpower or something
Sounds like a good plan. It sounds like quite a pain How much silver do you have?Originally Posted by MandyBeth

Well, the color did show up for a while - about 2 weeks? And it's clearly visible on my *dry, crispy* ends. It's just the section that has been since LHC grow out does NOT want to dye and stay as such color. There are some pretty obvious differences in my new pictures in my album.
I'd be willing to keep trying the henna, but the length that has now 4 or 5 henna treatments to it is still staying pretty bright coppery red. Which I don't mind, but not my favorite or first choice - I'd rather the burgundy tones. Don't think I have enough natural color to get there.
Haven't tried cassia yet because I didn't want to lighten the red any, but I'll have to give it a try. Or maybe just a really really diluted henna gloss.
I had also read that 24 hours is too long, you end up with "dead henna" at that point. Optimal dye release time with room temperature or cool water seems to be 8-12 hours, less with warm or hot water. If you really want to try color, try less of a dye release time, otherwise you can become a Renegray

I'd try henna from another source. I've been very very pleased with the Yemeni henna from:

And following her directions, I only let dye release for 12h... I suspect 24h may well be too long.
I gave up on henna a long time ago. Not only did it cause major breakage but the color would run every time my hair touched water. Im talking weeks after the initial henna treatment. I was fed up because my color would fade so quickly and the grays would be hot pink. It just was not for me.
