No Shampoo and Campfire Smell?
Yesterday I spent a lot of time around a fire and in a sweat lodge. Afterwards my hair smelled like ashes, herbs and sweat. I used to be able to get the smell out afterwards by using regular shampoo and conditioner. Now I have been using baking soda and ACV to clean my hair, which I love the results from, but it is not sufficient to get the smell out. I broke down and used store-bought organic conditioner to wash my hair with, and that got the smell out, but I would rather not use store-bought products because even the "all-natural organic" products are not very natural or healthy .
Any advice from experienced no-pooers and strong smells in getting in the hair? My hair was smelling fine on no 'poo until this experience that caused me to reach for the bottle of conditioner.

Baking soda is usually very good at neutralizing odors. Maybe you need a stronger solution or leave it on longer to absorb all the odors before the acv rinse? I was also thinking you could make a BS bath and lay down in it to soak your hair longer, then shower and acv rinse.
Good Luck!

Bottle that campfire scent up and send it over my way! I love it!
More helpfully, it does fade, even without shampoo as I can sadly tell you. I often try to be extra gentle on my hair after camping since I like the smell, but it always fades anyhow.

Thank you Chromis and Kelikea, I will wash with more baking soda than usual and be more patient next time

I've always heard its vinegar that gets smells out. My mother-in-law uses it for everything, including cat urine (which is awful and almost impossible to remove). So maybe more vinegar?
