CurlyCap, your hair is the sort of thing that makes me wish I were curlier!

Have you tried EVOO? I get great shine from the stuff (and also less tangling than with anything else I've tried, including GFTN before they ruined the formula for me).

Curlycap one thing ive recently discovered that gives the most amazing shine ever is sweet almond oil with a few drops of sweet orange essential oil in it. Sweet almond will probably help with shine alone too, but the combination is really amazing. I naturally have quite shiny hair but after using the mixture as my scalp massage the night before a wash the results are very obvious

I moved to Arizona almost 9 months ago and my hair hasn't recovered. it's just so dry here and my hair feels like wire. or wool. I mean, it's getting better with deep conditioning and co and oil but honestly...
I live in Las Vegas and my hair has forgotten that it is curly--except that all the short hairs like to stand out in opposite directions to the rest of my hair. It absolutely drinks anything that I put into it (oils, etc.) and never can be moisturized enough! What I've found works is never letting anything drying touch my hair (shampoo, heat, etc.), and only use very gentle cleansing with either CO or WO methods. We have horribly hard water out here, too -- as I recall the water in Arizona was similar -- so I need a vinegar rinse after washing, as well.

It's funny, I've done a lot of moving from the East Coast (humid) to the West Coast (dry, overall), and my hair classification keeps changing. I'm more of a 2c in the dry areas and 3a in the humidity.

You can see my Vegas hair (with bun curls) on the left, and on the right, my Alabama hair. No product in either pic...

    Lookin' good, CC!

And I agree with the others on oil for shine. Curly hair's structure by nature means that the cuticle can't lie as flat because it has to bend around the curves, so our hair just isn't shiny like the straighties. I've found great results from mixing AVG with some oil of choice -- best of both worlds, light gel hold plus soft shine from oil!
