Default should coconut oil be refrigerated?

i dont like to keep my coconut oil in the refrigerator because is gets completly soild and hard, so i usually keep in the the cabinet, but i noticed on this one particular jar of extra virgin coconut oil its says to refrigerate after opening, but none of my other jars say that? has anyone ever had coconut oil go bad on them by not refrigerating?

also does anyone know what other oils have to be refridgerated and which ones dont? at the moment i keep my jojoba, coconut and olive oils in the cabinet, and my grapeseed and sweet almond oils in the fridge

I've had mine in the kitchen (not refrigerated) for several months and it's still fine, but that might depend on whether it's refined or unrefined.

I would in any case, once opened. It should last longer.

Coconut oil is a highly saturated fat and should be stable at room temperature. I've kept mine for almost a year at room temperature with no change in color, texture, or smell. If your room is cooler than 76 degrees Farenheit, however, it will solidify out of the refrigerator anyway.

I usually have a small container (one of those cheap gladware things) of coconut oil out of the fridge that I use regularly, and I keep the big jar in the fridge. It doesn't need to be refridgerated... but it does keep longer if it is... and I take forever to use up coconut oil.

ETA: plus I like to use the big jar for cooking sometimes... and I prefer to not have my dirty fingers digging repeatedly into something I'm going to use for cooking!

Like teela1978, I have the larger container in the fridge and a smaller bottle that I keep at room temperature for use.

I think it's probably best for the long haul to keep it cool! You can always warm up a little between your palms before you apply it. (o:

I also keep a smaller container in my room and the tub in my fridge. I use coconut oil almost every day but it goes a long way and the jar can last me a long time. I don't think it would go over, but I prefer not to take a chance. And, while it isn't that spendy, why have something go bad and have to be tossed, if I don't have to?

I've always kept mine in my bedroom or the bathroom cabinet, even in the summer (and we don't have A/C). I've had the same jar for over a year and it's fine.
