... your significant other makes the comment that he doesn't like it when you braid and/or put your hair in a ponytail to sleep because it sometimes hits him in the face when you toss and turn... and you act like you feel bad (and you do a little!) but you are more thrilled that it seems like a "mini-milestone"!

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken. —Oscar Wilde
... you're in the hospital for some examinations in preparation for some imminent surgery (don't worry, it isn't something serious) and steer the conversation towards hair since the nurse taking your blood pressure (Dark brown hair, probably 1a/b, M/C, iii) wears her waist-length hair in two pigtails, and you want to extol to her how easy it is to put hair up and away at her length, and let down your braid and put it up again as a demo.
Later, when you are discussing the upcoming operation with a doctor, you make a point of asking about a suitable hairstyle for it. (Braids!!!)

You know you are a long hair when......
Your family, friends, coworkers, and even the occasional stranger automatically knows whose hair that is on the floor, seat, food (it happens to us all, I just can't hide when it happens to be mine).
...you "hairtype" random people on the subway. (nice 2a hair, wow I rarely see 3c's with such long hair, etc)
and have to literally bite your tongue to keep from going up to them and saying,
"PLEASE don't brush your hair, you have CURLS and they want to live together in prettiness, not all spaced out from each other in frizziness!"
[or]
"Chemicals are NOT your friend.... can I direct you to an internet community of people who can show you how to stop abusing your hair so you no longer look like some sort of space alien witch?"
(my poor tongue was bleeding by the time I got home from the New Year's Eve hockey game -- my heart ached for all those stressed-out tresses!)
...when you see someone and think "Wow, their hair is long!"--and then realize that's about the same length as yours. Which really isn't that long, of course.
...when you're really excited to get fitted for a decent bra--I can finally see how much longer my hair is than normal "bra strap length"!
(Mine was apparently too big, and I was compensating by pulling the strap pretty much to my waist. >.>)
