Thread: hair texture vs protein-use?

  1. #1

    Default hair texture vs protein-use?

heya guys!! it would mean A LOT to me, if you could help me out here

So. I passed through a couple of sites explaining the use of protein and that with incalculation of the hair texture.

Those sites told me that if you have fine hair (F), proteins should work REALLY good, and if you have course hair (C), they shouldn't.

But a fellow-forum-mate told me that she had F-hair, and proteins didn't work at all for her.
So, I started a poll, for more information..

with proteins i mean: hydrolized things, proteins, silky things, milk things, that sort of stuff

    so.
What is your hair texture? And did proteins work for you?

I don't know which option to choose for F/M! LOL! I'm guessing my hair is more .... normal? But yeah. Proteins didn't work for me at all, it made my hair crunchy and ick, but it worked for a week or two and made my hair smooth and silky, but not very good for detangling. @_@

I regularly use proteins (it's in the conditioner I use for SMT's and I'm pretty sure it's in my regular conditioner too) and it leaves my hair feeling fantastic.
Is hair like this impossible to have? I think not!

My hair's pretty fine, and proteins generally do work for me (it's in my regular conditioner & my SMT). However, I have to be careful not to overdo it. Occasionally I need to take a break.... but for my hair it's like that with almost anything. It took me a long time to realize my hair likes it best when I shake things up every now and then! YMMV...

I'm bookmarking this, but can't vote myself: I have all kinds of strands from fine to coarse and wiry, hair has been changing to more coarse texture in recent years. Anyways, protein overload made my hair break off badly last year and took long time to pinpoint the reason and to correct the balance between moisture and protein. It will be at least year more before I have trimmed off the damage that caused me.

I haven't done a specific protein treatment but my sls-free 'poo has protein in it. Don't notice any real problems although just in case I use an sls 'poo once every couple of months to remove an potential build up.

I've got coarse and vv thick hair.

I have F/M hair that is more fine and my hair loves protein. My conditioner doesn't have protein, but I use the CV Honey, beer, and egg 'poo bar and do a protein deep treatment once or twice a month.
ETA: My hair is also damaged/color-treated and I think that is part of why protein works so well for it. I think it needs the protein.

My hair is fine and protein works great for me.
My hair breaks easily. Protein strengthens my hair. Protein makes my hair break less.
It's hard to fine a conefree protein conditioner over here though (Rentle, can you help me with that? )

My hair is mostly normal/medium, with some fine areas near my temples and a bit that's course towards the base of my skull. It HATES protein, even the smallest bit is pretty much a guarantee for gnarly, dried out crunchy hair on me.

My hair is mostly coarse, and I didn't vote because protein is pretty neutral for me. I never notice it doing anything special for me, but I also have never had a bad reaction to protein-containing products. So it's a wash for me; I don't go out of my way to get it or avoid it.
