So when you came hear if you had damaged ends tell us how you coped with them. Did you chop alot off at once? Small baby trims? Did you somehow baby them and keep them? Are you still trying to figure this one out?

I just chopped 4" of them off, but overall I am more of a moderate trimmer. I do not plan on doing any more big chops ever! Maybe I will trim 1/2 my yearly growth until the rest of my damage is gone.
ETA: The ends I chopped were REALLY bad - splits, white dots and hair breaking off everywhere.

I suffered with my velcro ends for quite a while. I actually was part of a church that taught that cutting hair was a sin. Once I got out of there (and that mind-set), it still took me a while to cut. When I finally did I took off about 6 inches of dyed, damaged ends. It was amazing. My ends were so soft! And the comb didn't snag at the ends. It was a bit of a shock, losing those 6 inches, but it was worth it.
However, I still have a few inches of color and it's been about 7 months since my cut. The ends are getting velcro-y again and I need a trim. So, I'm trying to decide what I want to do. I may trim it myself or I may go to a salon. But, sooner or later I will trim it again. Probably 2 inches.

I voted "other". I had a small amount of damage, an uneven hemline and I am still growing out layers so I took about an inch and a half off. I couldn't decide if this would be considered a big cut or a small one, so this is my way of choosing something in between those two options.

I continue to do a lot of small trims. The ends of my hair tangle easily and I sometimes get those tiny knots at the ends ("fairy knots"?) Small trims keep my damaged ends under control.

S&D: search and destroy!
(if the entire hemline is damaged I would tend to cut back to healthy hair)

I tend to do smaller trims. Then again, I have short hair, so I'm wary about losing a lot of length.

I am a mixture of babying and small trims. I have had two 1 inch trims since I joined LHC in June of 2007. But I also baby my ends quite a bit and do not use any sulfates or silicones.
My hair is actually quite damaged from dying and heat styling. I can actually see a line of demarcation starting at chin. Not only in color but also in shine/frizziness and broken hairs. It's a bit frustrating but it's something probably I notice more than anyone else.

S & D and moisture moisture moisture are my friends. I've done the big trim thing with good results but the splits came back. It's just the nature of my hair. I've done lot of small trims to keep the hemline neat. S & D gets rid of my split ends better than small trims. My splits aren't at the bottom of my length. They are all over. Sigh.

I trimmed about 1/2" to 1" at a time. In one year I guess I've trimmed off about 3". Now I'm happy with my ends, and will just trim lightly when they start to look ragged.
