As someone with thin hair (barely into the ii category), if there were iv and v categories, I'd want to curl up and die. I personally would lean towards just saying (for the way-thick-hair people) "iii+" or something like "iii - 5in", so that you'd get full credit for all that hair. That way, we're still playing within the same system that other sites use (I remember when we "adopted" that typing system, and I recall borrowing things from other places to put it together. But maybe we borrowed the whole dang thing; my memory ain't what it used to be, and probably never was!)
This could all just be my insane jealousy talking, though...
My hair thickness measures very differently depending on what I washed it with, what the weather is doing, how many hot flashes I had that day, how long it's been since a wash, etc. If we went to a more granular system of thickness categories I'd have to update my profile every day, sometimes more than once, to keep it accurate. But by the current system, it's always a ii.
Too many options makes it confusing for me. Let me know if it changes so I can remove my "stats" from my profile. I wouldn't know how to classify myself if it changes.
What if we just put an option for exact circumference instead of/in addition to the 'i's? Like I'd be 1b/F/ii-3" or just 1b/F/3 or something like that.
That would remove confusion with the classifiers still in place (how annoying to so many people would it be to change it, too!) but help with the fine tuning of the system. (Granted, people will say "I don't know whether to put down 3.5 or 4, it changes!", but that's a problem with the current system as well.)

I agree that it will be confusing unless we simply but the measurement.
