I think a lot of oils that are claimed to make your hair grow, only slightly make it stronger, and give it a shine. I don't know it really imroves your growth

I've never used emu oil on my hair. Actually I've never used *any* oil on my hair, I just haven't gotten past the icky, greasy factor about that yet. lol!

I can say though, that I use pure emu oil on dry skin, and it is amazingly wonderful. I also have a kind of cream/oil that's a combination of emu and paw paw, which is great for your face in the winter.

Oh, and this might sound silly - but how exactly do they get emu oil? :/

Going long after being short for 6 years!

I have a lot of friends who use it to care for their stretched lobes, and they say it's quite similar to jojoba oil in texture/moisturizing. Personally, I find the idea of rubbing rendered animal fat into my skin/hair distasteful, no matter what the supposed benefits are. I'll stick with jojoba and coconut oils, which smell better and cost less to boot!

I'm currently suppressing any dead animal products from my food, it's not to add some to my hair care regimen !
Emus are raised and used primarily as a meat source that is very healthy as it is low in fat and cholesteral. The emu oil comes from the back fat of the bird and is simply a byproduct of the meat rendering process. Emus are most widely known for their unique oil and low-fat, iron-packed red meat, but their fine leather, (hide), unusual feathers, toenails and exquisite large green eggs are also sold for various purposes. So in that respect it is not much different than beef cattle in terms of how it is used and sold for various things. It is definitely not killed solely for beauty treatments.

I've heard of emu oil but have never really been tempted to try it. Other things make my hair feel nice and emu oil isn't the easiest thing to source! Not sure if I like the idea of using an animal fat on my hair either... I'm not vegan or even vegetarian, I just prefer to keep using vegetable oils on my skin and hair.

    And $400 is ludicrous!

I'm pretty sure it's a by-produt of killing the bird it receives it's name from, or at the very least extracted from the corpse.
