So do you wait for the dye to release before putting it in the freezer? Doesn't thawing cause dye demise?
How long is your hair? I have waist length hair, almost at tailbone. If your hair is long, how are you able to henna twice a week? Isn't it time consuming? Please share your technique.

I don't shampoo after henna, but that's just because the only shampoos I keep on hand are clarifying shampoos that I think might be too strong. But I do condition the crap out of it (like half a bottle of VO5) for rinsing, and that doesn't cause problems for the henna. My scalp gets a bit gunky, but not itchy, until I shampoo a few days later.
I do use lemon in mine, but honestly that's...just because I used it the first time and have been terrified to change my mix because I don't feel like doing more strand tests. I'm switching to Nightshade's ruby henna mix soon though, so will probably ditch it then. Freezing is a godsend. I let it dye-release for 2-3 hours, then pop it in the freezer. It gives fantastic stain...even if it does mean your head might be a little chilly the next day.
I also re-freeze what I don't use for the next application, and still get great dye release the second time, if that helps at all. And it's been fading less the more applications I've done.
Final note...henna does not loosen my curls. But it sounds like mine are more aggressive than yours, so you might be okay to get the results you want. And I've been doing this for about 2 years now. My henna does fade just a little, but is easy to brighten up.

Waist-length, and (grudgingly) rocking the fairytale ends. Hoping for hip by the end of 2019 with at least a semi-decent hemline. Ultimate goal of TBL...or longer.
Thanks for your response. Please tell me how to make the ruby red mix.
Here is what I plan to do. Mix henna and water, let it sit for 3 hours, then pop in the freezer. Once it freezes, keep it out in the middle of the night, so it can thaw for 8 hours, until I wake up and I'm ready to henna.
Yes, our hair types might be different. My hair is straight until the ends, where it starts to wave a bit. I don't know what that type is called, maybe a 2a/1c. I definitely got a relaxed wave after henna.

It doesn't need to thaw for 8 hours. I mix my henna, let it sit until it dye releases then freezes it. I take it out to thaw in the morning, generally take a couple hours. Often I set the container its in, in a bowl of warm water so it thaws a bit quicker and isn't cold when I apply it. Refreeze leftovers. I've thawed and refroze my mix multiple times, always got good stain.
Henna definitely loosened my curls but it took a few whole head applications, maybe 6 or so before I really noticed them relaxing. Its the only thing I disliked about henna, I want what curls I have to stay. Thats one reason I stopped a few months ago.
