Default Braids or plaits? Let's translate...

    Braids...
    Plaits...
    Weaving?

What do you call them, and does each style have its own name or all for one and one for all?

    I'm curious.
    So...knee?

Dutch and French are braids, English is a straight plait if I'm not referring to multiple braids in the one post.
    So...knee?

I think I've always called them braids, even if I was learning the Queen's English. But I can do "plait" too. No worries.

I tend to use "braids" because that's the term I saw people use here when I joined, so it kind of stuck. I can deal with the term plait too, and sometimes even try to use that when writing to a Brit.

I prefer braid, maybe because this is the word I learned first (youtube tutorials probably), but I say plaits when talking to Brits

I always used to say plait but since joining this forum I've taken to calling them braids because most people do here. Sometimes I mix it up a bit :P

I always say plaits first. I also say flat twists and canerows/cornrows instead of French or Dutch braids. Growing up in the Caribbean referring to having hair plaited with hair extensions was having braids. Weave is having clips in or sewn in, or glued in hair extensions.

"Braid" in my vernacular. Certainly "plait" is also acceptable, because you can have more than one word for things, but it's not the most common term here in the US.
