Default Aloe Vera Gel ingredient safety

    Hi all,

I decided to try this Aloe Vera Gel as a hair product. It's from the dollar store. It's called Max Block After Sun. I really, really liked how it made my hair look and was wondering if there were any harmful to hair ingredients in it.

The ingredients are: Water, Glycerin, Polysorbate 20, PEG-8, Sorbitol, Aloe Barbadenis Leaf extract, Carbomer, Diazolidinyl Urea, DMDM Hydantoin, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Blue 1, Yellow 5

If it's safe for hair, I may continue with it and see how it goes!

I personally wouldn't use it. The things that concern me is that aloe is the fifth ingredient on the list, the third, fourth, and fifth I believe are preservatives. There's also fragrance (although I'm highly sensitive so this may not apply to you. As well as the dyes. Disodium EDTA is a salt, so that may be drying to the hair long term.

Even if AV might be lower down the list. The bigger thing is how it makes your hair feel. If that's fine, then please continue to use it.

There are better formulas out there, but this isn't "bad".

There's too many chemicals and dyes in that personally for me, so I wouldn't use it. DMDM Hydantoin has a moderate to high hazard rating, and Diazolidinyl Urea a moderate one. I too avoid "fragrance."

Thanks for the advice. I had thought that I might have stumbled upon a cheap and great product but it definitely wasn't good for second day hair. Also kind of scary that it had some hazardous ingredients.
