I'm not sure but when I did a henna test patch I left it for 24 hours just to be sure the dye released and luckily the streak I dyed turned a nice colour, the medium brown got a noticable warm ginger enhancement.
Hey!
My henna/cassia mix has been sitting for 9 hours now and I don't think it's ready yet....actually I'm totally unsure!
It's gone really thick and gloopy but doesn't look that brown. I tested a bit on my wrist but it's not left much of a mark, if anything!
Does it need longer? Wanted to apply it tonight, sods law!!
Also, when I do apply should I section off and brush on with dye brush or just smash it all on?!
Thanks guys!

Hi :-)
24 hours later and I'm still unsure.....it has left the faintest of marks, could this be because it's 50:50 rather than.pure henna?
If its staining, you're good to go Having it mixed 50:50 will make the staining lighter. Next time, maybe make up the henna and cassia in seperate tubs so you can test them apart, then combine them when they're ready?

Hi, how acidic and warm was your liquid? With me, room temperature chamomile tea + the juice of half a lemon (mildly acidic) is ready in a night - so anything from 9 to 11 hours... steaming hot chamomile and juice can stain just immediatly.
I think bagginslover is right, the stain should be lighter, maybe just jellow-orange, or pale orange.

I did henna yesterday. It was 100% henna, a high quality one. I mixed it with room temperature rooibos tea, and applied it without waiting for die release. Left it on for 4 hours, and my hair got a very pretty dark auburn color, so the henna did stain. I say do it. If it stains your skin, it'll stain your hair. When I did my first henna, I let it sit for 3 hours, then 3 hours on my head. Second time I left it in the bowl for 2 hours, and on my hair for 4. Now I didn't leave it out at all, just applied it straight away. I find that it makes no difference, the color will be just as intense. No need to make a big deal about numbers. Some say you need to let it oxidize for 24h, 12h, 3h, not at all. It sounds to me that you are doing this for the first time, but with your dark hair color, you can't really miss. Good luck.
I'm with MissAlida, I only let mine "cook" for about 45-an hour before it goes on my head, if it is good and thick you are good to go. consider you are going to let this set on your head for several hours, even if it finishes releasing on your head you are still good!
Oh, and I only do my mix up to 1/4 henna, and with only that little bit I still get a pretty red color so don't worry!

Hi all! Thanks for the replies, and the tips. I actually made it with warm camomile tea and a squeezed lemon. It has been in my spare bedroom which is quite warm so unsure why it hasn't turned brown! As it is gloopy, would anyone recommend adding a bit more liquid? It has turned into a paste, of sorts :-/
I always add more liquid to apply it, you could use more tea, or just water, up to you. You can use warm or cold too, I try to use warm so that its not too cold going on my head Mine is a stiff paste when its ready, and I add more liquid til its a yoghurt like consistency

Yogurt eh? That's really helpful actually, thanks. Do you section and apply? I'm wondering if I really need to what with my hair being Dark so there not being that.much of a colour change?
