Default benefits of a boar bristle brush?

I've seen BBB mentioned on here many times but I can't seem to really find why a BB would be used. They really aren't great for detangling and I've never had much luck with trying to distribute oils down my hair shaft with them. Does it have to do with my method of use? Does the quality of the brush make a difference?

What exactly are BBB's used for?

I only use them for brushing out dry shampoos. Otherwise they have a tendency to make even my clean hair look slicked down and oily.
    Change is the only constant.

A BBB is not meant for de tangling, a comb has that job. Love my BBB as it gives me a lovely scalp massage, is great on wash days as it takes my sebum away from my roots, makes my hair very shiny and as a Brucie bonus it increases my growth slightly!

I like mine for scalp massage and to distribute oils. Quality is everything and you would have to buy it in person to get the best brush for you.

For me it's only good for making the top of my hair look greasy and the bottom half frizzy. My tangle teezer gives a much better scalp massage.

Going for terminal, but also enjoying wearing my hair down and curly.

I have one, a regular "no brand" one which is a mixed one, boar bristles mixed in with nylon bristles as normal full-on BBBs don't get through my hair, at all. The biggest downside to them is that my hair gets oilier a lot faster just from brushing the hair. So: no. I love my Tangle Teezer way better, at least that one -on top of a comb- can detangle.

Haha, that is my main use for mine! I love how slicked down it makes even clean fly-away first washday hair look.

I really only use mine on my scalp to tame the frizzies and it does a great job.

For me, I use it for two things:

Brushing out a dry shampoo and to 'sleek' my hair. I suppose it's good for scalp massages, too.

    Definitely not for detangling.

-"Scalp Therapy". It doesn't really give my scalp a massage but brushing with it in different directions, and brushing with my head down, is therapeutically. lol
-It does make my ends frizzy, so I stick using it with my scalp.
    -Smooths hair down.
-Distributes oil down the hair shaft. It makes my hair look like an oil slick at first, but give it a few minutes and your hair doesn't even look oily!
-They're a pain to clean. I have to clean it every time I use it. I now use it right before my shower, so I don't really have to mess with it, but when I do want to use it, it can be a pain, lol.

My list of pros and cons for the BBB.

I use mine to smooth my hair after I detangle it. I also like to drizzle a veeeeery tiny bit of oil on the bristles and work it through my hair. I feel like it's distributed better that way than when I use my fingers.
