Do people who post in here measure every month, or is it okay to measure one's hair every other month or so?
Would like to keep track of my growth, but I don't have enough interest to measure that often.

I believe that whatever works for you If you measure every month or every other month, you can get a picture about your average growth. But you can set your timeline, like every 3 months or so. And if you don´t need to know exactly what your average month growth is, you can pop in here anytime you wish/have time for.

    okay, sounds good.
will take a first measurement then, after I've done my next CO and let it airdry.

Left earlobe below is 77.5cm, right one is 72cm.

My longest racer is 107cm but since I lost my longest racer (88cm) two weeks before, the second longest is 105.5cm, sigh. Let me get a number in the middle.
My low pony circumference is 9.2cm but high pony circumference is 10cm, that’s quite a big difference.
Anyway I debated about whether I should stop monthly measurement because well, what’s the point if my length decreased instead of increased?
Unemployment messed up a lot of things and huge shedding is one of it.
    I need more benign negligence.

My high ponytail circumference is 10.2cm and my low pony is 9.8cm. The expansion in the circumference largely thanks to my minimalistic manipulation.
Over the past month, I didn’t do anything special to my hair except that yesterday I shampooed for the first time in three weeks (used to be 4-7 weeks but I got very sweaty in the raining garden picking dragon fruit and I needed to clarify as soon as possible). I didn’t try any new hair styles, it’s basically fingercomb only and (braided) LWB or nautilus bun in the morning until I went to bed in a loose braid in my silk bonnet.
However, I’m not very glad to say that my hair length didn’t change much over the past 3 months, I took 3 measurements, the shortest is 106cm, the longest is 108cm, so I chose the middle number.

Even though measuring from my earlobes did show 2-3cm of growth from last month (79.5cm and 75cm). Yes my hair IS growing but very unmeasurable from my hairline with a long ass fairy tail and I keep shedding my longest racers. My shedding hair container is always messy during my nighttime finger detangling. Last year I estimated my hair should be well over 110 at this point but it’s just not happening. At this rate it’s getting harder and harder to predict my knee length date (estimated autumn/winter of 2024) and I honestly don’t want to think too much about it anymore.
The milestones between fingertip and knee is just too much of a stretch for any sane people to ponder monthly, so I opt out.
This will be my last update in 2023, I will be practicing benign negligence and stop measuring my hair for at least 3 months. I also cut down my collagen peptides from 20 grams to 10 grams a day as a way to save budget. My finger nails still grow like crazy but that’s also because I practice calligraphy and piano more. I don’t know if I will continue to buy the powder after I run out with my current bottle.
Meanwhile, I will enjoy life more with my calligraphy, hula hoop flow, and music, without obsessing with my hair growth.
I might update in January 2024, or not. Let’s see.

Measuring long hair is certainly tricky. tuanyiji, have you ever measured your taper?

    Yes it is very tricky.
    I never measure my taper.
I started from APL/BSL blunt cut by my mom before the pandemic, so that’s 4 years of no-trimming, and that’s where my taper starts, my fairy tail end consists of probably 3 racers and I keep shedding them.

This is what my hair ends looked like in July after I combed out the bun waves:

In August, air dried without combing, you might need a microscope to see that my longest racer is well over my left mid thigh:

But if you don’t look at it too closely, it’s actually kinda decent. I oil it every day and rarely find any split ends in my virgin hair (maybe just 3 over the past year when I sort my sheds, so I never pick up the scissors).
I might consider maintaining the hemline after I reach my knees. For the moment just let it grow but forget about it.

I measure from hairline, this is my sixth measurement.

    April 9th: 77 cm
    May 9th: 78,5 cm (+1,5 cm)
    June 8th: 80 cm (+1,5 cm)
    July 9th: 82 cm (+2 cm)
    August 10th: 83,5 cm (+1,5 cm)
    September 9th: 84 cm (+0,5 cm)

I took several measurements today, but only got 84 cm every time. I don´t feel like I have a stall or something, but I am disappointed, even if it is silly. Maybe I will stop measuring and just let go... that is the point of not trimming, isn´t it.

And of course, I forgot all about it.
On september 19 I am going to dye my roots, so here's to hoping I'll remember to measure and post in this thread by then.
