I don’t normally get people touching my hair without my permission, but I have regretted letting certain people touch it. My hair is easily tangled and the strands are rough so when they try to run their hands through it hurts and pulls in my scalp.

I remember countless times in elementary school having my braids or ponytail yanked while running on the playground. Oddly, the worst offender had long hair herself. After going to my dad for advice, because telling her to STOP didn't work and neither did telling the teacher, he told me to pull hers the next time she did it. "Give it a good hard tug." I was a bit horrified but did as I was told. She recoiled and yelled, "Hey! That hurt!" I said, "I know! You do it to me all the time!" She never did it again. My dad, my hero.
