Ooh, I love all the pictures in this thread!!
Me, too! Everyone looks super!
Great idea for a thread!
When I was younger I was mystified at vintage pictures and illustrations of updos.
Being fine and thin, there was no way I ever had enough hair to pull them off. I still don't, lol!
I could never figure out how people did them. I know now that everyones hair is very different, of course, but as a kid it was just amazed.
My hair was so straight it couldn't hold as set for more than an hour at best, too.
I tried, my mom tried, but it was always a fruitless effort, pretty much.
I can't imagine ever being able to pull off these styles if I had to.
These pictures are all very impressive to me!
Thanks for sharing them, Id love to see more!
Still Growing! (or maybe not...) 54"+ 5 more inches of fairy tale ends... 1a, F, 2
These are great styles. I used to go out for swing dance a lot (still do once in a while) and I've never really come up with the right vintage style for my long all-one-length hair. I'll be watching this space for ideas!
I love this thread!
Spirals, your second photo is extremely becoming on you!
Sarahlabyrinth it looks vintage enough for me, and very pretty at that!
CurlyCap I love those rolled up bangs!
AmberLouise wow! The victory rolls are perfect! And the betty bangs! Do you dress in rockabilly style by any change?
I have only couple of photos of mine, I usually go for vintage inspired rather than go all the way. These are several years old too, but I don't have any newer:
You can see the updo from different angles in this blog post:

Always behave like a duck -
keep calm and unruffled on the surface but paddle like the devil underneath.
I've never tried a vintage 'do myself, but all of these look so pretty! Spirals and AmberLouise, that red lipstick looks amazing on you both.
I think I might have to look up some hairstyles to see what I could make work with my hair

Wow, loving these pictures!! Spirals, how did you do the second picture you posted? Is it a bunch of pin curls in back?
Does anyone have any tips for how to use rollers with layered hair? I can never seem to "wrap" the hair up around the rollers. (I have the same issue with sock buns :/)
Let me think....I did 7 sponge curlers, 3 on each side (easier to sleep) and 1 kind of up top on the right, the wider side of my left-hand part. I did brush it out after taking them out, though I don't always. I put it up with a scrunchie and lots of good grips pins, just kind of pinning curls wherever. The bangs got that curve from 3 pin curls and lots of brushing out. I pinned the scarf in place with the clear good grips. I get those at Sally Beauty.
