I voted "down" because in a ponytail my hair tangles and gets dry. The same happens when I wear it completely down.
I would also say a ponytail is "back" and not "up". Good idea! ![]() |

I think the last time I wore a ponytail, I was 10 years old
![]() I'd call a ponytail "uppish", it's up because it's out of the way and off the face, but I'd never consider it an updo. I don't even consider a bun an updo. I think an updo is one of those intricate numbers. The kind that involves a million pins and decorative doohickies and a buttload of hairspray and gel or whatever, and it's the kind of thing you wear to an event. A bun is just a bun, and a ponytail is just a ponytail. They're all "up", but what they do once they're up, or how functional they are towards protecting the ends, or how fancy they look is irrelevant. And, a low pony is just a low pony. I can't imagine what kind of function they serve other than to keep your hair somewhat under control.

I think it's not really "up" as your hair is still hanging down, but it's not really "down" neither, as it is kind of all together in one place. I guess it is on the borderline between "up" and "down".

For me, a ponytail is definitely DOWN.

I think it depends on the hair length a bit. I haven't been wearing my hair in a ponytail often since I hit waist, I think, because I'd rather wear my hair "properly" up or down. Ponytail is something in between.

I voted "up" because I wear my hair down almost every day, but on a windy day I put it "up" in a high ponytail so my hair doesn't get in my face all the time.
