Bad, bad, bad clip (pretty, though). The metal parts are very damaging, at least for my hair. I have a clip with a functional part that is like this one, only there is a shark on top of it. I wrapped the metal bits with band aid. This reduces the amount of hair the clip can hold, but takes away the sharp edges.
I´d use your clip for a halfup, but since you said you don´t do them usually, I am at a loss. |

I had a link for making this type of barrette hair friendly, but the link no longer works. IIRC, the person took thread and wrapped it around the offending parts.
Here's a link to a fairly recent thread about it; if you message the appropriate participants, they might have thefull instructions. HTH

Thank you so much for your apreciations...
I guess I'm not using it then, altough I found the reparing method interesting... I know the artisans where I bought this barrete, they also make all the neck medals I buy... I might ask them to make some hairsticks for me Then I'll be able to wear these beautyfull things...Thank you so much everyone ![]()

I have no problems using barrette clips occasionally (not every day). I think they are more likely to eat finer hair.
One style you could do is to braid then loop the tail up and under the base, tuck the end under and then clip them at the top of the braid through the canopy. So you get a braid loop.
