Pretty sure ads just pick up on keywords and stuff. I did see an ad for Ethical Superstore, so that was a good one
They are great and I bought some stuff
Hit or miss
Useless for me, but entertaining
Selling mostly non-LHC prescribed practices and tools
Cheesy
I've been getting so much exceptional, useful advice on LHC, and it's a great community!
But there is one thing that surprises me: the ads on top. Do advertisers of flat irons, curlers, dyes, wigs, hair extensions... REALLY think that LHC is a great place to find potential clients?
If they read just a couple our threads or articles, they'd know what overall LHC "best practices" are.
I find it hilarious and a general waste of advertisers' money, but I wonder what you guys think.
How come I don't see ads for oils, henna, herbs, wood/horn combs or hair-toys? Is it just because there isn't as much money in that?
PS: sorry for the rant!

Yep, the ads just pick up on keywords, which is why a thread bashing extensions is going to be full of ads for extensions. I've also noticed it likes to give me ads for things I was looking at on other sites, like Modcloth and Overstock, which I know is based on browser history but it's still kind of creepy.
Knowing that the site depends on revenue from ads, they don't bother me. There's nothing with autoplay and no popups, so they're unobtrusive, and sometimes they'll show me a cute coat or dress I missed the last time around.
I voted cheesy - they used to annoy me, but after installing AdBlock I never have to see them any more.

Same here, adblock
Lets see how long this little lump can get. Viva la natural!Lady Nemetona, Adept of the Henna Flame in the Order of the Long Haired Knights
I don't really notice the ads too much, and when I do I see that they are usually for things that many LHCers wouldn't use ...so it is rather funny.

Well, LHC doesn't pick those ads out for you..its only based on key words you have typed. Its definitely ironic, but no use in getting all weird about it for me personally. I should get ad blocker but haven't yet because it doesn't particularly bother me. The Plus side of ad blocker would be no ads before you tube videos
Doesn't clicking ads help support this site? There have been a few that have intrigued me and I clicked.

Taking an LHC break.
I have AdBlock Plus and never see the ads.

I used to be annoyed, now I don't really notice them. If it makes the site money for maintenance, I guess I'll tough it out .
