My hair gets horribly tangly if I flip it upside down for Curly Girl. So I just don't do that :p It's not the end of the world if my roots are flat!

I'm surprised that there have been reports of hair getting worse with CG? I wonder if it's due to using the wrong kind of gel, like drug store brands which can be very drying and loaded with chems and alcohols. That's why I specifically chose Faxseed gel from the health food store. I noticed it's not as stiff as generic gels, but my hair does feel softer and curls / waves clump nicely as long as I DON'T touch it.... so hard for me...!!!! I even bought some flaxseeds to make my own gel with... that will be interesting.

I agree... I even used clips at the roots like shown in the book to give lift, but my hair weighs it down too much, and they just go flat... oh well. Most of the models pictured in that book are APL or shorter. Nice to hear other curlies/wavies do variations of the CG method.
You mentioned flaxseed gel from a health food store, which gel/store? I make my own but I'm always looking to see if some can be found in a store. I have purchased some from here and really like it.
I just got the funniest thought when I read this. I could practicly hear that little fellar in your avatar happlily funning around, laying on the back like on the pic and saying "It's not the end of the world if my roots are flat!" LOL Thats the way to go :D
Yeah me too, but I suppose this is because they were used to all these silicones before they started. When their hair was coated with all this stuff their own, damaged hair did not surface. After clarifying, the condition of their own hair must have seemed abit dissapointing to discover.

Yes, you're gonna do great! Mine was so damaged & dry that the tangles took 2 1/2 hours to get out. I cried ALOT and lost alot from all those bad cones/sulfates for so many years. When I began there was no way I could upside down it w/out adding hella tangles. You can do it right side up, each side & front. The key to encourage curls is right before you get out of the shower, with conditioner in is to scrunch & pump about 8 times per section.
I had read that on NC.com, thought ooookay, but....it really worked! Also, you will see the longer you do CG and trim, the less tangly it becomes. You can try plopping and that helps alot :)
It's Jason Flaxseed Hi Shine pure natural styling gel. I just realized that it does have alcohol in it which is a reformulation from the original product.

I'll look into the one you posted. I could have gotten Giovanni's but it was higher price.
Ok odd question but is anyone else's hair curlier on one side than the other? It has always been that way and it is very strange... and annoying x
