After thinking about it for months, I'm finally touching up my roots today.
Going to be joining the indigo club very soon, after years and years of using Nightblooming's Enyo (which a beautiful color, but I miss my black hair!). I'm weirdly nervous about trying this? I've used boxed henndigo before, but I'm going to try the two-step process and see what happens. I would be okay with a very dark, warm brown to start if that's what happens.
The siren song of darkness is strong ;).
I ordered indigo today:cool:
Finally got around to the two-step method. I'm really happy with the results! It's not a deep blue black, but it's a deep brown with a bit of red and I am happy with the color. I anticipate it fading a bit, so my plan is to do another whole head two step process next month and then move to root maintenance after that.

What a beautiful color, Hellebore! I love how it turned out!
I watched a video where someone else recommended the same thing, but I didn't have quite enough indigo to do it this way. I am going to order more in May and do a second round with the method you described, and then the black should grab on a lot better. I'm also fine with a slightly more natural looking black.
A while ago I made a full indigo for the first time in a long time. I documented the mess...

I actually made what I call a "cheat version". I couldn't be bothered with taking a strand at a time and neither did I have enough indigo for it. So I first did the roots as usual. Then I dunked my ends in a bucket with a loose indigo mix and massaged it in a bit.

I also turned into a swamp monster....

And my shower...

I got rid of the blue stains on my skin in the sauna. But my toe nails still have blue spots

But at least it worked and I can stick to roots only for the next few years!
