Thank you for the sweet compliment, Desdemona. :flowers: I have a lot of hair, but it is baby fine. All that volume is from bun waves.
Congratulations on the increase in your ponytail! 1/2" is a lot! Wow!

nisolu - I've never had to use any conditioner with my CV bars on my oily scalp and normal hair. I think it partly depends on which CV bars you use and what type of hair you have. Just make sure you have some on hand and see how your hair feels with and without. There seems to be a lot of experimenting involved when using these products.
I'm sorry the Charcoal bar is not working out so far for you both, naturechild and Neoma. Hopefully adding conditioner to the rinse will help!
Which bars have you tried, missy60? You haven't had any good results with any of them?
Suldrun - The only shampoo bar you listed from there that I've tried is the Summer Sunshine bar. I agree about the strong scent. It smells very strongly of herbs and citrus. Cafe Moreno and Nettle are the only two I've tried that have been strongly scented. Cafe Moreno has a strong clove smell and Nettle has a strong liquorice/black jelly bean scent. I'd stay away from ordering those if you don't like heavy scents. On the opposite end, the other two shampoo bars with a mild scent would be the Honey, Beer and Egg and the Extra Honey, Beer and Egg if you make another order and feel like trying something else. Some say the first dries out their hair, while others say it moisturizes it. Most say the Extra one is very moisturizing. I think it was near the beginning of this thread where a few people listed the honey bars as being their favorite alongside the Babassu & Marsh Mallow and the Olive Babassu bars due to how moisturizing they all are.
healingsolitude thanks for the unput on the smelly bars :) I definitly like the mild scents better. I was avoiding the beer and egg bars because my hair doesn't like protien but the more I read here it seems you just cannot really tell what your hair will like so I may try them.
I was going to do the BS thing that you suggested for a week but I am so impatient I don't think I can wait:p so I plan on trying a bar tommorw.
Suldrun,Ida´s scents lessen a lot as the bars age. Maybe you got spanking new bars? Leaving them around for some little time might work. Maybe put the Rosemary Lavender one in your underwear drawer or something like that. The Egg bars are both unscented, as is the Olive Babassu. Most other bars have quite a strong scent at first, but as I said: it fades.
And the Lavender dog shampoo is one of my favourites! It has such a different scent from her other shampoos - woodsy, slightly masculine. I love it. Sad to say, the mosquitoes loved me nonetheless in spite of the insect-repellent properties. ;)
You're welcome, Suldrun. :) Maybe try the Extra Honey, Beer and Egg first if you decide to try them? That one has more honey for moisture and less egg for protein. The regular one might have too much egg if you think your hair is not a huge fan of protein. Plus, that extra honey will be good for your skin if your hair decides it doesn't like it.
No problem about the BS rinse! It doesn't sound like you should have a yucky stage since you've been using natural shampoo for awhile now. Now you'll just have to see which bar your hair responds best with. :)
I used my Ginger and Cardamon shampoo bar from Mehandi.com last night and I love it! I had tons of lather and only lathered twice, but once would have done it. I have no residue at all on my hair and it is very soft and shiney. I used my herbal ACV rinse and am very happy with this product. I still have the Ylang Ylang and Lotus bar to try. :)
Ok I tried the Babassu & Marsh Mallow shampoo bar just now. I detangled and used a little jojoba to help. Then I wetmy hair really well and rubbed the bar on it like I was combing my hair . I also rulbbed it down the length a bit and then rubbed it all in. without washig it out I re soaped my hands and repeated utill I felt like Ihad everything covered then I rinsed.
it did not feel like i needed to re-soap so I did a very diluted vinegar rinse ( I didn't measure, i just put some in a bg jug and filled it with water.
I bagged my hair and did my other showerly things ( I used the dead sea bar) the took off the bag and rinsed. My hair felt squeeky and almost waxy and rough. It is now air drying. i did not do my usual catnip rinse because I wanted to see what the bar is like on it's own. I did notice more shedding then usual but it could be hormones as I just got a special womanly visitor this morning:flower:
Suldrun, I think I shed more when I started using shampoo bars. Now my shedding is back to normal - in fact, I don´t shed much anymore at all.
Also, I know you said your hair was on the dry side, but most people have to start with the more "cleansing" bars such as Chamomile Citrus. Babassu Marshmallow is a very moisturizing bar, and if your hair can´t take it yet, it may well be that you have to give it a second try some weeks from now. It really is a great bar.
I tried the Charcoal SLO shampoo bar again. It feels great while I'm using it -- not at all stripping. I followed with a mild WV/EO rinse mixed with a shot of AO GPB conditioner.
Detangling was easier, but not effortless.
My hair looks good, but I really am concerned by how tangly and dry my ends look these days.
I am seriously thinking about checking out Dairy Whip. How many folks are still using that regularly? Do any of you use it without conditioner? Do any DW users have baby fine hair like I do?
I'm waiting for them to get back to me about fragrances. I need something that's fragranced with EO's only, no fragrance oils. They're sending me a catalog.
Calista, thanks I will put the pumpkin in the guest bathroom for now and the rosemary lavender in my closet that should dilute them i think;)
darn i was hoping the dog bar would help while camping, actually now that I thik about it the cedarwood dog bar would smell yummy in my closet:p
Healingsolutude( I love that name by the way:) ) Thanks for the advice onthe bars. My skin and hair both like honey so if the bars work for me I will try what you suggest. I am a horrible experimenter , even if something is working fine i have to try new stuff:o
