Re: Do you get compliments by men on your long hair?
I usually only get unsolicited compliments from my sister and my boyfriend. My sister is a fellow longhair so we always notice each other's hair. My boyfriend has picked up on the fact that my hair means a lot to me, so he makes a point to compliment me on new styles and on my length. :)
Beyond that, I think most updos look the same to other people. Friends and coworkers don't really comment, even when I've got something that, to me, is glaringly obviously as a new item, like a ribbon or a new hair stick. That's okay... I do it for my own joy!
I did one time get a stranger (female) admire my rope braid and ask me how I did it. That made my day!
Re: Do you get compliments by men on your long hair?
1-See excellent hair
2-Pull my stick so my hair is down
3-Make a drive by comment
The key is the drive by...expecting a response is likely to be perceived as creepy. Especially if the commenter is male...demanding a response is typical of male privilege.
Re: Do you get compliments by men on your long hair?
I never get compliments on my hair. It is pretty disheartening. My hair has been short for 2 years, but even when it used to be long, nobody would comment on my hair unless it was to say how I should cut it (women only).
Once a guy aquaintance asked me why I take so long to get my hair ready, when I barely have any hair. Needless to say, I never hung out with him again!! I'm sorry my shoulder length hair doesn't fit male standards for beauty.

That's a good approach. I have experienced women doing drive-by complements too.

The only male who compliments my hair is my husband, and only when I ask, "How does my hair look?"

Genius. I have to test this the next time. I actually often don't compliment people I don't know just because of that awkwardness that usually occurred when I did. I often get too shy to ask long hairs about anything, anyway, but I do want to tell them that their hair is looking great!
And as for OP:s question: I never get compliments by men - except from my boyfriend. :) He's my hairs biggest cheerleader lol. I'm satisfied with this as I get a bit intimidated when strange men approach me. Maybe because I've gotten compliments about, erm, other "assets" than my hair - which makes me just wanna hide somewhere. It could be that I because of that sends out a "don't-approach-me"-vibe, but I don't know.
The drive by, though, is a fantastic idea! In that way it would be a super nice complement that obviously didn't mean anything else than that the person liked my hair. :)
Re: Do you get compliments by men on your long hair?
I never compliment women I don't know, and almost never compliment women I work with. I worry that it will be misconstrued. One of the women at work has some very colourful socks that she wears on cold days, which I have told her I like, but I think that is about the only clothing item I would dare mention. Mentioning a body part would be out of the question. I suppose I have complimented some women I work with about their hair, if it was really long, but to be honest very few of them have hair as long as I do myself, and mine isn't exceptional by LHC standards. One new person bobbed her tailbone length hair before I felt comfortable enough to tell her I liked it. :(
Re: Do you get compliments by men on your long hair?
Mainly from older men and women [60s+]. They all LOVE it. XD There were 5 or 6 older women walking in the mall one day while I was sitting there, and they were admiring it, and one was touching it. Sometimes, women around my age or so will compliment me on it. Not as much the guys. Except there is one guy I see every great once in a while who loves it. He's 33. :)
Re: Do you get compliments by men on your long hair?
I don't get compliments on the length since it isn't very long but I get a lot of compliments on the color usually by men or older women. It's really flattering and hardly ever in a way that would make me uncomfortable, except that I have had some really touchy people say "ohh your hair looks so soft!" and then basically pet me in the grocery store. That's a little awkward but oh well haha.
Re: Do you get compliments by men on your long hair?
I rarely get compliments from men. It has happened though- recently a homeless dude told me I had "lovely long red hair", but then, of course, asked if it was natural. ;) And I do get whistled at a lot, mostly from cars, but occasionally after a guy passes me on the street- always when my hair is down.
I get compliments from women (most often friends) though, and children. Have been told many times my hair is a really nice colour, looks very natural, that it is beautiful, long and healthy-looking. That I look like a mermaid, and Rapunzel. :) Makes me feel great every time!
I do wish my partner would compliment me more on my hair. I have to fish for compliments before he gives them, because he's not the sort that says things about others' appearances. He did once say it was "soft and silky, like a chocolate truffle," but then he's also said I care way too much about my hair, hahaha. ;)
