Since up's been my first style choice for almost twenty years, I really want to try a ficcare now that I've caught wind of them. Either a maximas or superclip (medium or large? my hair's almost apl but thick so I'm not sure, another deterrent to ordering online) but am terrified to buy one having never tried one, much less seen one.

Does any one have one that the dog tried to eat or all the paint chipped off, that they'd be willing to sell me for not too much? I could *not* care what it looks like, I just want to fiddle with one, so all I ask is that it works pretty much like any other one. Does the clip mechanism become loose over time, btw??

fingers crossed-- bg

It's hard to sell them for not-too-much, because their odd shape makes them too big for letter mail -- from Canada, at least! (So that adds $8 or $9, right there.)

What do you mean by, "not too much"?

I was able to ship a ficcare from USA to Germany for less than $5. The postage itself costed $1.80, I'm not sure how much the padded envelope was from memory.

Wow,good question-- I guess it would depend on the size, the original price, the amount of damage ... or not.......whatever the seller thought was fair? Once it gets too close to original prices, seems I ought to just buy one new I guess. Especially, like you said, if shipping is going to add a substantial amount.

I honestly hadn't quite gotten that far because it seemed like such a pipe dream after looking at all the nice photographs of people's well cared for collections. I just figured it never hurts to ask! :)

If you have something, you could pm me I guess?

Just curious (since I've never seen them in real life) can they not be shipped in a padded mailer? Or is it too risky given the shape and construction?

Thanks!

I do have a large maxima that is a bit unloved and has seen better days cosmetically. The clip itself is fine, no mechanical defects. It was a border black pearl and the enamel completely came off in one big flake and it's now just a plain silver maxima, large. I really don't reach for it at all. Would that interest you?

that is *exactly* the sort of thing I'm looking for!

You can buy a pink one on ebay. That was my first one and I think it came out to $30 with shippign cost for a medium vs $38 plus shipping on ficcare

If you are actually in Boston, I believe that Head Games has a store there where you could try the clips for free.

ETA: They're actually in Newton... Head Games, 95 Union Street, Newton Centre, Massachusetts 02459

I've tried calling them repeatedly but no one's ever picked up. Are they really there? That was my first idea, but I gave it up when I had such trouble.

They were. I know Shelleybean and others have been there, but I don't know how recently.
