Hi Guys,
I Know I will get the best advice and information from you.
Background: I have BSL, chemically dyed thick hair, naturally about 80% grey. :(
I have invested in Yemeni Henna and Yemeni Katam from henna-boy.co.uk/.
My plan was to mix this with water, 40 Henna to 60 Katam, wrap and leave overnight.
I know that Henna can be problematic if you take certain medications, does anyone know which these are?
Is this a good plan, anything else I should know?
Thanks Yall

Hi Kes,
I didn't know that henna can be problematic with certain medication. Have you also tried posting on the henna for hair forum?
As far as I know henna is "relatively safe" as it has been used for thousands of years etc etc but statistically speaking some people will be found to be allergic to it. Is this what you meant? If it was me and I was worried, I might want to speak to my doctor if I had any conditions that might be affected by colouring. One option would be to try and do a 24 hour patch test on skin beforehand. I would do the henna one day and the katam another, just in case there was a reaction. I'm not advising you to do this, just suggesting this might be what I would do.
Personally I find that both indigo and katam give me a thumping headache if left on for more than an hour or so. Other people have found this with indigo, but I think the link is anecdotal rather than proven - I don't know of any published research.

Thank you Coppersilver,
I am not 100% sure about the medication / henna contraindications - wow good word :o. Just wanted to check before I jumped in. If any one will know, then with the collective years of experience I sure someone here would.
As I suffer from migraine, I had heard about indigo giving some people a headache, which is partly why I went for Katam. The patch test I am doing now, one behind each ear. Not a good look :-(

I'm afraid that you'll have to try for yourself. I too suffer from migraines - very often, once or twice a week - but I don't have the slightest problem with henna or indigo. You just can't know how you react beforehand.
As for covering 80% greys, I don't know if that is at all possible.

A fellow migrainer, I find mine go in blocks, 2 - 3 a week for 5-6 weeks, then I can be fine for 3 - 4 months and it starts again. :headache:
I am now going to do a Yemini henna and Katam 60g Henna to 40g Katam, I'll leave it on overnight - so I'll let you know how it covers. Wish me luck.

Ugh! Sounds pretty bad.

Yes, good luck with the overnight treatment. Do you have substantial root growth to cover? I tend to henna every weekend for a couple of hours to build up the colour layers on the white hairs. I think I'm about 60% whites to 40% pale ashy mouse brown. I've thought about doing a katam gloss over the top for a change but haven't got round to it yet. Katam doesn't "stick" for long on my hair, and neither does indigo, in a henna mix.

Another regular migraine sufferer here. A henna session has never triggered a migraine attack for me. However, it wouldn't be wise to start a henna treatment if you already feel a migraine coming. Heavy stuff on the head and heavy scents so close to the nose might not be the best thing for you at that particular time :).
