I've done a bit of research on Monistat and it seems the general consensus is that it works (makes hair grow faster) by killing off any fungal infection on the scalp which may be inhibiting follicular growth. If that's the case, I wonder if other natural fungicide such as citricidal (grapefruit seed extract) or garlic would also do the trick. I am sure they could be used diluted or in oils like coconut or EVOO.
Has anyone tried either as a direct application? BTW, citricidal is an amazing fungicide and I recommend it to anyone who has a yeast infection (you can take it internally or use it externally).

There's the well-known Scottish study in which massage with a mixture of lavender, thyme, cedar, and rosemary essential oils in carrier oil was shown to stimulate hair growth better than massage with carrier oil alone. The mixed essential oils might well have functioned as a decent fungicide.
Grapefruit seed extract has a little controversy around it, summarized here (http://www.terressentials.com/truthaboutgse.html). It's not enough to make me afraid of its presence in products, but I wouldn't put a high concentration solution of it directly on the skin.
I have seen garlic and onions mentioned occasionally around here as topical growth promoters, and it's hard to imagine anybody would put them on the scalp for the pure joy of it, so I'm guessing that there might be a little truth to that story.

I've also heard of the onion/garlic but I'd be too afraid of the smell!

Yes, of course I wouldn't use the citricidal (or garlic) straight, undiluted as it is extremely potent and can be dangerous to skin/eyes if used undiluted. It does work extremely well though on candida throughout the body.
Thanks for the article, will take a look.

Hey Infinity Girl; Thanks for the great info. Can you tell us more about the Citricidal? Does it come as an Essential Oil or an Extract? Dou you know any places where we can get it? Thanks in advance ;).

 I noticed too late that you very clearly wrote "diluted" right in the title of your post. Sorry about that; I should never try to respond to threads after 10 pm.

Hm, the studies about grapefruit seed extract show that its antimicrobial properties stem from chemical preservatives which many of these products contain. There is nothing natural about it. You could as well put triclosan directly on your skin...

I'm in the UK and I bought both the Higher Nature citricidal liquid (which you only use a few drops of diluted) and the tablets from Amazon.
I used them both when I had really bad thrush from breastfeeding (sorry if TMI) and none of the allopathic medicines that my doctor prescribed me worked at all. It cleared up the thrush in about a week. I had been in excruciating pain (breastfeeding with thrush is like being stabbed with 1000s of tiny needles) and it was amazing.
Gulbahar - there is nothing natural about most of the allopathic medicines we are prescribed and so much that we eat. I personally found citricidal to do the job very well (much better than allopathic medicines) natural or not.

If it worked for you - great! I just wanted to point out that if you are looking for an all natural remedy grapefruit seed extract is not exactly what you want.
