View Full Version : Social groups tomm March 7th, 2008, 09:19 PM How do you start a Social group? I can see that one group has been created, but I don't see a way to start a group. harpgal March 7th, 2008, 09:21 PM tomm, are you going to start one for the Fab Fifties and Sizz Sixties? To answer your question, I do not have a clue. :D tomm March 7th, 2008, 09:50 PM That was my plan  I suppose one of us will figure it out sooner or later! kimberlily March 7th, 2008, 09:50 PM I want to start a couple of groups too... but I don't know how ;) Dianyla March 7th, 2008, 10:02 PM When I go into "Social Groups" I see two items: "You are a member of the following Groups" and then "Available Groups". At the bottom of Available Groups I have a link for "Create New Group". It might just be because I'm an Admin, though. :ponder: If you don't have that link, go ahead and let me know which groups you want to create and I'll make it for you. moonchaser March 7th, 2008, 10:15 PM How do you join a social group? snowbear March 7th, 2008, 10:17 PM When I go into "Social Groups" I see two items: "You are a member of the following Groups" and then "Available Groups". At the bottom of Available Groups I have a link for "Create New Group". It might just be because I'm an Admin, though. :ponder: If you don't have that link, go ahead and let me know which groups you want to create and I'll make it for you. Correct. You're an Admin, so you're automatically superior. Can you make a College-Age group? And a SoCal group? If groups do what I think they might, then we could organize SoCal meets though the group. dancingbarefoot March 7th, 2008, 10:20 PM How do you join a social group? Go to the social groups page (from your User CP sidebar or this link (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/group.php)), then find a group to join. I'm also seeing the link for creating new groups, but that could well be because I'm a mod. dancingbarefoot March 7th, 2008, 10:22 PM If groups do what I think they might, then we could organize SoCal meets though the group. I'm not sure on the privacy restrictions on the groups, though. For now, it's safest to continue using the meets board for that. snowbear March 7th, 2008, 10:25 PM Go to the social groups page (from your User CP sidebar or this link (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/group.php)), then find a group to join. I'm also seeing the link for creating new groups, but that could well be because I'm a mod. I can't seem to be able to join any groups. Perhaps the settings are such that only mods/admins can join a group? I'm not sure on the privacy restrictions on the groups, though. For now, it's safest to continue using the meets board for that. Good to know. Still, I think it might be useful to have a compendium of local LHCers. ps. I love this multiquote funtion!!! Liluri March 7th, 2008, 10:27 PM Correct. You're an Admin, so you're automatically superior. Can you make a College-Age group? And a SoCal group? If groups do what I think they might, then we could organize SoCal meets though the group. I tried to PM but my system doesn't work, could you please start a Pagans unite Social group please :) TIA ETA: Thank you, but I still can't join the group :( snowbear March 7th, 2008, 10:30 PM I'm not a mod, sorry. I would if I could, though! dancingbarefoot March 7th, 2008, 10:31 PM I can't seem to be able to join any groups. Perhaps the settings are such that only mods/admins can join a group? I'm not sure. You clicked on the name of the group, got taken to its page, and there was no "join group" link in the top right corner? Dianyla March 7th, 2008, 10:32 PM I can't seem to be able to join any groups. Perhaps the settings are such that only mods/admins can join a group? OK, I created a few more groups, and they're all set to Public. But the only people I see belonging to groups are mods/admins. :ponder: chloeishere March 7th, 2008, 10:35 PM I'm not sure. You clicked on the name of the group, got taken to its page, and there was no "join group" link in the top right corner? Nope, not for me. And I NEED to be a member of the TMI group-- my journal has gotten ridiculously TMI since LHC went down. It's where I belong. :D I can take a screenshot and post it if it would help, but I've looked all over the group page, and though it says it's public, there is no link to join, that I can see. I specifically checked where you said-- I assume it's supposed to be above the "view all members" link? tomm March 7th, 2008, 10:37 PM OK, I created a few more groups, and they're all set to Public. But the only people I see belonging to groups are mods/admins. :ponder: Thanks! Now, how do you post to a group??? snowbear March 7th, 2008, 10:38 PM I'm not sure. You clicked on the name of the group, got taken to its page, and there was no "join group" link in the top right corner? OK, I created a few more groups, and they're all set to Public. But the only people I see belonging to groups are mods/admins. :ponder: Yep. I think the settings are such that only mods and admins can join. Hey, Dianyla...your first admin duty is to open the groups so all can join! (Or course, being LHC, y'all will probably put a post/day count. I think I pass the 100 posts/60 days.) dancingbarefoot March 7th, 2008, 10:39 PM It's here: http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/8135/screenshot1ee8.jpg It could be that some setting isn't tweaked just right. moonchaser March 7th, 2008, 10:42 PM That link isn't there for me, DBF. snowbear March 7th, 2008, 10:43 PM Me either. I'm betting it will get resolved once Steph gets some sleep. Poor thing is probably way too tired of coding. tomm March 7th, 2008, 10:47 PM You're right, snowbear. I'll check back later. snowbear March 7th, 2008, 10:54 PM You're right, snowbear. I'll check back later. You can check now! Our Admins are super-quick, I tell ya. Dianyla March 7th, 2008, 10:55 PM OK, I've at least fixed it so that you guys can join existing Social Groups. We'll have to figure out how we'll be creating new groups going forward. In the meantime, just let a mod or admin know what you'd like created. snowbear March 7th, 2008, 10:55 PM OK, I've at least fixed it so that you guys can join existing Social Groups. I'm hoping for a caregivers group, one for skirts, and maybe ... well I keep thinking of a third but forget it every time I get online. Please don't make a forgetful group in my honor, I'd never remember to join. :p k_hepburn March 30th, 2008, 09:44 AM I have no idea if this is technically possible, but may I make two suggestions that I would find really helpful to have for the social groups: In the top section on the social groups site, the one that lists all the groups you are a member of, would it be feasible to incorporate those little blue, red or yellow dots, like for the thread lists in the other parts of the forum, that indicate whether there are new posts? Along similar lines, it would be really great if there was a function to flag the "last read" post, or get straight to this point - in groups, like TMI, that have quite a lot of posts in a relatively short time, I always spend quite some time trying to find where I last left off if I want to catch up on the conversation. Thanks katharine Flaxen March 30th, 2008, 12:45 PM I've added those two, Countess, and when you think of the third, let me know (no group for forgetfulness, I promise). k_hepburn, I'll let the administrators know about those suggestions. Presto April 4th, 2008, 09:06 PM I would like a group for good internet shopping sites. I found no groups when I searched for "fashion" and "shopping", so I think there aren't any yet? (I wasn't going to read all 20 pages of this thread...:o) Call it "Great finds on the web" or something like that? "Great buys.." "Great shopping"... Or would that be too much like promoting other websites....hmmm.... I've seen a couple of threads with great stuff like HolyClothing, etc. It would be nice to find a lot of them all together. morningstar April 7th, 2008, 08:15 PM Could we have a grief support group?
