View Full Version : Styles to do for shorter hair with layers?

I really love the look of stylish updos and it's frustrating having layers and hair hat's not long enough to do a bun or braid.A lot of people were telling me to use butterfly claws to do my hair, since it's not long enough to braid yet. :( I am going to get a couple of claws to do my hair with, and some bobby pins.
Are there some creative ways to updo with the claws other that just "put it up"?
Any other people with shorter hair doing this?
Thanks for your responses.

Your hair looks long enough for a peacock twist, Gibson tuck, sock bun, and a French twist. I do peacock twists and french twists with claw clips ... but I think the French twist looks better with spin pins or bobby pins so that they can be hidden.

Hey I'm at about the same length :) What I suggest is twisting the sides back and then trying to twist the rest of your hair back. You should be able to do some sort of messy updo this way.

Haven't you asked this question before in this thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=66644)? o.O You used the same picture. :D

ETA: Buy some pretty hair pins (http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=wedding+hair+pins&_sacat=0&_odkw=hair+pins&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313) or hairsticks or picks/forks. :) I don't wear claws, they're too boring now. :D I have one though.

One of my friends used to put a bunch of hairspray (I'm sure you can find an alcohol free texturizing type of product instead) in her hair and use bobby pins to pin it in a very messy updo in the back. She would just bunch it up until it fell into a shape she liked an then would just pin it in place. She had just above APL length hair with layers.

It looked really nice and was really romantic and soft looking.

If you're looking for something neater, french twists work for your length and you could just bobby pin the layers.

OOPS yeah I forgot about that. I didn't have any supplies to do anything but a sock bun then. I was going to get a spiral pin today instead of hair claws but I wasn't sure if my hair was long enough to do it.

Alice band with flowers or something rhinestone-y? Can you do a half up with a barrette and flip the hemline out? Poofy ponytail with the ends spiked or scrunched? One of those elastics with fake hair attached? Low chignon/ roll with a beak clip?
