Hi everyone im kinda new to dying my hair with henna, i did dye my hair a few years ago once with Lush henna but i found it faded. This time i want to try using a henna and indigo mix, after reading the posts i think i understand how to do it ( there is so much information its a little overwhelming). I just wanted to check if what i plan do do is ok.
I have natural dark brown/black hair BSL and the result im looking for is blue/black hair. I was thinking of using 1/3 henna, with 2/3 indigo and 3tsp of Amla powder. Also is this method correct mix the henna with warm water, cover and leave over night. Just before i dye my hair make a paste with the indigo with warm water leave for 15 minutes also make a Amla paste and add them both to the henna and use straight away. Sorry for the long post, thank you for reading :)

If you mix you henna with warm water, you don't have to leave it overnight. Because of the temperature the dye will already be released.

That mix should give you a nice, dark brown result. Although if you want truly black hair, you need to do a 2-step process - henna first, then overdye with indigo.
As for the dye release time for the henna - it depends both on the henna - some hennas have a faster dye release time than others and, as veer666 said, the temperature of the water you use to mix the henna. When the henna gets brown on top, you have reached the dye release time, and the henna must be used before the dye demises.

Good luck!

I always find it best to mix with cooler water, as this gives a larger window of opportunity. The warmer the water is, the quicker your henna releases dye but also the quicker it will demise. I heat up a little distilled water, let two or three bags of camomile tea steep until it's room temperature, and then I mix.

Don't use hot water. It will kill your henna and leave a brassy stain.

Thank you for the tips :) I thought i could get black hair in just one step but it looks like i need to do the 2-step process.
