Hi:) I've been playing around with adding henna to my herbal washes. It wasn't exactly my intention to change the color but I was open to it either way. Anyways, I put 3 tbsp of henna and 3 tbsp of reetha in a bowl and added boiling water. Then I immediately put it on my hair (ouch, hot). I put on a shower cap for 20 min and then rinsed it out.
Before this time I had done this once before but only left it on for 5 minutes.
The second time I got quite a lot of color.
(I can't seem to figure out how to put pictures in the text but here is a link to the before henna picture:

And here are two links to the after henna:

If you notice, my hair is lighter at the ends. This is because I didn't put the henna on the ends of my hair (because I thought I was just cleaning my hair, not coloring it).
Do you think I need to henna the bottom half?:)
Thanks:)

I think it looks nice, and hair tends to be lighter on the bottoms anyways:) lovely hair by the way.

Lovely results, it still looks more blonde/light brown than red in the pictures. I don't think the colour difference is obvious.
I usually aim for a similar color with henna glosses, and my ends are a bit darker and redder than the roots (because they are more damaged and absorb more color), but you can't tell unless I hold the ends next to the hair near my face. :)

Thanks Sarahramen, Ishje and Phexlyn.:)
Phexlyn, your hair is quite similar to mine in texture and color. I can't tell that your ends are darker from the pictures and the color is very nice.
I have a confession, I sortof messed up. I'm an idiot what can I say. Last night my hair was soo dry so I stupidly decided to do a deep condition with conditioner, coconut oil and olive oil left on for 20 min. When I got in the shower the runoff was orangish. That's when I remembered - Not supposed to condition hair for a couple days after henna.
So my lovely orangish highlights are all but gone.
So, I shall re-perform this experiment only this time I will not deep condition my hair the day after hennaing.;)

I understand deep conditioning before henna is the way to go!!!
I like the gloss color it gave you. It isn't to dissimilar to my starting color. Which henna did you use?

I swapped henna with Vrushali and she gave me some Mehandi.com "Dark of the Moon".
Its a really pretty color of henna I like it. I just need to be more careful in my methods next time.;)
I think our hair color is very similar. My color was lighter but I started doing herbal rinses with darkening herbs and my color got a bit darker, then I did the henna on that. I'm sure my next henna will do a lot better. I don't mind if it goes a bit more red, I just don't want to be a "redhead" per say but stay in my range.

Thank you :)
I'm sorry you accidentally conditioned out your lovely highlights. I always put some conditioner in my henna paste so my hair doesn't dry out as much, but I think this results in less staining than without conditioner.
So if you want to be on the safe side, condition your hair before you do your henna gloss application.
