I just finished a batch of homemade whipped body butter. I've used both the shea and illipe butters before, but not together. Both the illipe and shea are unrefined.

My Recipe
1/8 cup illipe butter
1/8 cup shea butter
1/8 cup and 2 tsp jojoba oil
10 drops lavendar eeo
1 tsp arrowroot powder (i.e. starch)

I melted the butters together in a double boiler. Then blended everything together with a hand mixer over an ice pack for about 10 minutes. (Soft peak stage.)

Then I moved into the light and noticed the butter is a pale green. None of my ingredients were rancid. The butter feels fabulous on my skin, but the color bothers me a tad.

I used to buy unrefined shea butter in bulk and package it for re-sale.....some batches did have a SLIGHT greenish cast. You can tell if it is rancid from the smell.....if it smells ok and otherwise appears fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

As long as it doesn't smell off you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Shea butter can be any color from pure white, pale yellow, deep yellow, and pale green.

My unrefined shea is very yellow, but has kind of a greenish cast, so it may be it. I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe it's some of the other ingredients too, combined. ;)
